Nothing like a handsome strong fearsome FBI agent and tough sexy US attorney go at each other and tackling a strange mystery that puts them both in da..Show More »nger. This is a fun listen not too intense but just enough action to keep you guessing. Karen White does a good job with the narration. It is a good kick off for this series. Remember this a romance series not an erotic tale. So if you want more of a sexual jaunt this story probably won’t satisfy you. But for light romantic tale with a bit of intrigue this should work. Predictable yes but worth the credit for me yes. If you don’t have a credit get it when it goes on sale
STORY (romance) - A Lot Like Love is another fun romp in this great romance series. I listened out of order (due to sales), so this is my third book...Show More » I've loved them all, but About That Night (#3) is my favorite. You don't have to listen to them in order, but I would recommend it if you can. The characters are related either by profession or family so their development continues from book to book, though each book is actually one romance and can stand on its own. This series has it all -- smart characters, clever dialogue, steamy sex and interesting background stories involving big-time FBI investigations. You can't go wrong here.
PERFORMANCE - Nice job. I've heard a few female narrators who perform more masculine male voices, but she does a pretty good job.
OVERALL - If you like hot contemporary romances, start with Book 1 of this series.
STORY (contemporary romance) - Love Irresistibly continues with all the things I like about this series. The main characters are intelligent and succ..Show More »essful, there is an interesting plot going on besides just the romance and there is lots of sassy dialogue! In this book, Cade is a successful US Attorney and Brooke is the corporate attorney for an elite restaurant chain. They are thrown together as part of a criminal investigation Cade is working on, and the clever banter and sarcasm begins...until they start realizing they might actually like each other. There is also a pretty good sub-plot involving Cade's new-found brother, Zack, which Cade didn't realize existed.
There is sex in this book and it's fairly explicit, but it is only a few scenes and they're relatively short. Personally, that's how I like my romance novels -- hot but not a lot!
PERFORMANCE - As always, I enjory Karen White's narrations. Not only does she do a good job, but her natural voice lends itself equally to portraying male and female characters well. No wimpy, nasally Romeo here!
OVERALL - This romance stands alone, though there are "updates" on characters from previous books (like Cameron from Book 1 is now pregnant, etc). If you think you might be interested in all the characters in the series, you need to start with Book 1. There is explicit sex as mentioned above, and there are a few F-words in sexual situations. Nice, easy listen with no violence. Highly recommended for any female who enjoys contemporary romance stories!
I loved practically everything about this romantic tale. It's the story of two folk in their 30s coming together after disliking each other. The roman..Show More »ce unfolds perfectly; there was no rushing nor the constant pushing and pulling against what they want. That's not to say that the coming together was without angst; it was there but appropriately so. I also liked that the h, Sidney, was the white-collar employee who made lots of money, while the H, Vaughn, was a basic, blue-collar FBI agent. And there was only one perfect family but not so much drama that you're weighed down by it and find a HEA hard to envision. To add to the great mix of romance, lil' angst, and good sex--about 2 sex scenes--there was the perfect amount of light humor.
The only reason this story is not a 5 for me is that I generally like more struggle or an element of darkness to a story. So this light romance was super smile-worthy, but I only want so much of it at a time. Still, I look forward to my next Julie James book. It was great.
