I don't know if I would have enjoyed this tale more of the serious Trauma doctor Ali ,battling her feelings for the hot and ripped firer fighter Be..Show More »au, although not very hard if it wasn't was read by somebody who sounded like she was reading from a cook book her rhythm is of and with this kind of novel you need that ,granted this is not a a classic by any means but it didn't deserve this .It could have been so much better with a better narrator .
I'm a Radclyffe fan but have only listened to her books on Audible. I might've enjoyed this book more if I would've read it instead of listened to aud..Show More »io version. But I just did not connect with this one like I did others in Honor series (this one is major spinoff and segue into Honor book #8). I prefer Abby Craden as narrator for Radclyffe because she makes each character their own & gives an actual performance. That's especially true for Blair & Cam's character/ongoing love story.
I'm sorry but Betsy Zajko just doesn't do it for me as a narrator. She did not make me fall in love with Wes & Evan's story...& she did not do any justice to Blair & Cam in this book. I could never distinguish one character from another because Betsy doesn't even attempt to change her voice. There is little to no inflection, except when she's narrating a sex scene. But even then, her performances almost always cause laughter from me because it just sounds so over-performed & unbelievable. It cheapens the story in my opinion. And she makes it very difficult to follow along with the story in general. It's almost impossible for me to invest in the book and connect with it or the characters when I have trouble keeping up with who's supposedly speaking at any moment. When you're narrating a book with so many female characters, it would go a very very long way to give each of them at least a semi-unique voice. Sigh. I just did not like this one at all, sorry Radclyffe.
The Weather is not the only steamy presence in this romance ,Sailor Max and the brave aid worker Rachel , manage to find each other even under heavy ..Show More »fire . Radclyfe went above and beyond in the realistic department, I was exhausted just listing to this intense tale of love in the middle of a war zone . I found the action not being in the bed room refreshing , don't panic it wouldn't be a Radclife without that but it was nice not o have sex as the point of focus .
