I can usally tell who the bad guy is about three-quarters of the way through the story, but not this time. With good pace and great narration by Scot..Show More »t Brick this is one that I will listen to again.
Like one of the other reviewers I have read and enjoyed some of the authors other books a lot more. The story was a bit too unbelievable. The narrator..Show More » was good very easy to listen to however.
The first third of this book was slow, and somewhat boring. However, I will say that it really picked up and had an exciting second half. I enjoyed ..Show More »the last two hours so much that I listened to it straight through. However, unless you want to read every Baldacci book with Sean and Michelle I would stick with only the First Family, and Split Second. The middle two books were so-so. As a suggestion, Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch books are better, in my opinion. Little different genre (police detective) but at least I didn't find myself falling asleep while I was listening to them!
Once I started listening to First Family it was almost impossible to put down. I had listened to the whole book in less than two days!! I have listene..Show More »d to every David Baldacci title available through Audible.com. I have enjoyed each and every one. First Family holds it's place with the others!! I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a good suspense novel!!
The narrative is wonderful as all Baldacci books are... but the recording is way too heavy on the sound effects which made certain parts seem trite. D..Show More »ialling them down would have lead to a 5/5 review.
It seems that good narration is hard to find. Ron McLarty is great here, but this is really co-narrated with Orlagh Cassidy, who seems to be more int..Show More »erested in 'pronouncing' than in speaking. The overly affected dialects are very distracting and even jarring. It sounds more like an 'acting practice, vocal rehearsal, over-emphasize the vowels' session than a telling of a story. It's too bad that it couldn't be just McLarty reading. Sigh. One more credit wasted.
I read some of the reviews of this book and almost didn't get it because of them. However, after completing it a little while ago I felt a need to get..Show More » in here and post something on behalf of other Baldacci fans that might be on the edge. If you are waffling like I was and are uncertain, trust your gut and trust David Baldacci's talent. This is indeed a good book. Okay, I will admit that its not my all time favorite work of his, but come on, it certainly was not as bad as some of the reviews I read. I would put it on my A- list.
absolutely the worst book Baldacci has written with its trite characters and unbelievable plot. The story would be looked down upon the most derring d..Show More »o fifth formers. Can't think who would enjoy it. I must admit on name alone I listened until part 2 but in the 200 odd books I have chosen from audio books this is the first I have not finished.
