A young man is found murdered, his bones crushed nearly to dust before his body was dumped into New York's East River. In New York, there are hundreds of murders a year, but this one is different. Somebody is sending a message. And shockingly, the victim has ties to a man very close to Henry Parker. And the murder ties into a case that has the city paralyzed with fear: A vicious drug kingpin is looking to take back the city. And this death is just the beginning.
For years this kingpin has been shrouded in darkness. And to shine a light on this criminal, Henry must team up with his mentor, the legendary, troubled Jack O'Donnell. But the more they try to reveal behind this blood-soaked curtain, the more they begin to realize just how dark the Fury's plans are.
And they haven't seen anything yet...

This book begins with a murdered man whose body has been pulverized. Then Henry's former boss being abducted, tasered, threatened with the dismemberment of her estranged daughter and finally released with instructions to write a story in the newspaper.
Henry and his mentor who is recovering from alcohol abuse are still on the trail of the head of a massive drug organization. The person is only known as the Fury. This is also the person responsible for the murder of Henry's brother.
This is a very well written book. It is complex, fast moving and lots of unexpected twists. There's an interesting backstory going on about young men who have college educations in business and finance who, with the downsizing in the financial industry are now unemployed. What lengths must they go to repay loans and their overextended spending when they are laid off.
Adam Verner does an excellent job narrating.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
