Publisher's summary

In 1944, American naval officer Lt. Wyatt Paxton arrives in London to prepare for the Allied invasion of France. He works closely with Dorothy Fairfax, a "Wren" in the Women's Royal Naval Service. Dorothy pieces together reconnaissance photographs with thousands of holiday snapshots of France - including those of her own family's summer home - in order to create accurate maps of Normandy. Maps that Wyatt will turn into naval bombardment plans.

As the two spend concentrated time together in the pressure cooker of war, their deepening friendship threatens to turn to love. Dorothy must resist its pull. Her bereaved father depends on her, and her heart already belongs to another man. Wyatt too has much to lose. The closer he gets to Dorothy, the more he fears his efforts to win the war will destroy everything she has ever loved. The tense days leading up to the monumental D-Day landing blaze to life under Sarah Sundin's practiced pen with this powerful new series.

Heavy handed Christian romance

Wish I'd realized this was Christian literature - and not subtle at that. Endless bible readings and conversations about God. If that's your thing, it's probably well done but I think this kind of lit should be clearly labeled.

The Sea Before Us

This book caught and kept my interest from beginning to end ! It gave me a lot of insight into cryptography and the incredible knowledge of the value of pictures taken over the years to see where bombs and covert operations were hidden ! I had read that before so having it woven into the store was great ! As usual, the importance of prayer and faith in God and His protection in time of war and peace in our daily life is refreshing to hear !

Even it the mist of WWII, love did bloom!

While serving as a British WREN (British women’s Navy active duty), she was serving in the Allied Supreme command intelligence unit, part of a select team planning the Allied invasion into France. When she meets Wyatt, he’s a U.S. Navy officer in the same offices. They become great friends. But she has her heart set on a more senior officer known from her youth. Romance and twists and turns keep the reader turning pages all through Normandy Invasions. Great plot! Pay attention or you will miss the many surprises! Great narration! Highly recommend!

Learn more about D-Day preparation by reading this

As always, well written and researched. A novel about D-Day and the preparation for it. As this is a Christian author, the characters also increase in confidence in themselves and in the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

Excellent book

The characters in this book drew each other closer to God and grew much in their faith as the story developed.

Once I finished listening to the book the first time, I was compelled to listen to it again--then read it.

The historical aspect of this book is very detailed and fascinating as well.

Narrator nailed the accents!

I loved this book! I especially loved the relationship between Wyatt and Dorothy's father. I appreciated how hard Wyatt fought to help Dorothy and her father. I really liked the parts with Dorothy's best friend Johanna. The narrator, Sarah Zimmerman, did an excellent job with their accents, even when they were trying and failing to copy each other's accents, while still using their own. I definitely recommend this book, and I am looking forward to reading the next one in the series, The Sky Above Us, when I have a chance.
