Publisher's summary

When the Germans march into Denmark, Baron Henrik Ahlefeldt exchanges his nobility for anonymity, assuming a new identity so he can secretly row messages for the Danish Resistance across the waters to Sweden.

American physicist Dr. Else Jensen refuses to leave Copenhagen and abandon her research-her life's dream. While printing resistance newspapers, she hears stories of the movement's legendary Havmand-the merman-and wonders if the mysterious and silent shipyard worker living in the same boardinghouse has something to hide.

When the Occupation cracks down on the Danes, these two passionate people will discover if there is more power in speech . . . or in silence. Bestselling author of more than a dozen WWII novels, Sarah Sundin offers another story of ordinary people responding to extraordinary circumstances with faith, fortitude, and hope for a brighter future.

Sarah does it again with a wonderful tale.

Throughly enjoyed the story.
Narrator did good too.
Liked her slow narration of the shipyard worker.
Keep it up Sarah!

Story great- narrator ummmmm

What a great story! I’ve loved these new stand alone books from Sundin, although they are connected a bit. I wish these authors would stick with a good narrator instead of going from one to another. In this book the narrator adopted very weird and slow voices for the other characters. Like, so weird I’ve never heard a narrator do that before much less ever heard anyone talk that way! . It was a bit hard to cope with at first. But I managed to get past it cuz the story was so great!

A pleasant surprise

I actually enjoyed this quite a lot. Historical fiction isn’t usually my jam, but the premise caught my eye.
It was a little more religious than I expected, although I suppose that’s not really out of place given the time frame. I’ve also listened to this narrator before, so maybe I’m just used to her cadence, but I thought she did a great job bringing the story to life.

Very interesting

Of the 3 resistance books Sundin has written this is my favorite. The dual stories of Hemming and Elsa were well done and it shone a light in WWII from a Danish perspective which is new. Enjoyed the story very much. The narrator’s choices for voices weren’t my favorite but fine enough. Would recommend.

Great Story Bad Narration

The narrator used very odd slow voices for all of the male characters. I gave up listening and bought the kindle book. The story is great.

I enjoy everything Sara writes

Love the story, love the characters, love the relationships, love the religious aspect; but did not love the narrator. I understand what she was doing during her performance, but at times it came across forced and flat. Still enjoyed and loved the story. Especially enjoyed the tie in with previous characters from other Sundin books.
