Publisher's summary

The most dangerous thing in battle turns out to be a beautiful lady.

Major Lord Felix Knight has always known he was destined for the army and is fiercely loyal to the Crown. Thriving on adventure and danger, there is no room in his life for the love and relationships which have cast their spells over his brothers. After healing from his time as a prisoner of war, he returns to the Peninsula to continue the fight against Napoleon. Despite Felix's vows to the contrary, a beautiful lady causes him to lower his guard and soon he finds himself torn between love for country and woman.

Lady Catalina Mendoza has followed the drum with her father since her mother's death. Men are drawn to her beauty and connections, but without exception, those gentlemen her father deems suitable bore and frustrate her. The only way she can tolerate the tedium is to glean information from her suitors to help her father. One night, she is caught at the game by a devilishly handsome Englishman - and everything changes.

Amidst assaults and danger, Felix and Catalina find themselves thrown together in a bid to discover a traitor before it is too late.

A great story of mystery and love.

I had a difficult time with the narration because he reminded me
of Robin Williams in Mrs. Doubtfire.
He his female voice. Plus the female sounded much older and his voice would drop at the end of a word or a sentence. I wanted to stand up and pretend like I was conducting a band. But his voices of the other characters, Men, were good.

An all round hit

An exciting and interesting view of the fighting and back biting on the Iberian Peninsula during the Napoleonic war. Loved the descriptive accounts of the behind the scene machinations

Full of spying and fun and Alex Wyndham.

I enjoyed this book. I will listen to anything Alex will read! I love this series! Not all balls and castles. Loved it! I enjoy that I can listen to this while I'm cooking dinner with family in the room. Sometimes these books are too mature for my 10 year to hear.

Favorite of the 5

This was my favorite The story was far more exciting than the others. The main female is very strong and stays strong. They come together in mutual respect that develops into love. We see the chemistry developing through the dialogue they share rather than the desire to save the female as in the other books. This woman doesn’t need someone to save her she needs someone to keep up. This takes place during war so it’s slightly more gritty then the others and is slightly more suggestive but still very much like all then other Night books. The mystery and action kept me on the edge of my seat. This isn’t balls and London it’s war, Spain and soldiers. I really liked getting to know new characters and they are pretty fleshed out for side characters. So far it’s my favorite and I’ve read from Duke to Dangerous.

Just ok

I was so anxious to read this....Alex's story. Was disappointed. I loved the other 3 books in this series. This one just didn't work for me. The characters were blah. Sometimes when I can't get into a book, I wait a few hours then try again. I'll wait a few months then try again. For now the only thing I can recommend is Alex Wyndham. He was great as always.
