Publisher's summary

Never fall for a mark. Mission fail.

Christopher Perri - aka Dante Perry - infiltrated the Madigan organization with one goal: vengeance for his murdered partner. Falling for the assassin at the head of the table wasn't part of the plan, but Hawes Madigan is not the cold, untouchable Prince of Killers Chris expected. Everything about the newly crowned king is hot, and every inch of him eminently touchable...and off-limits once Chris's cover is blown.

Exposure couldn't come at a worse time. Hawes's throne is threatened, and Chris suspects the same person who killed his partner is behind the coup. Working with Hawes benefits them both, but Chris's employer has other ideas. Dismantling criminal organizations is what Chris does best, and his boss expects the King Slayer to deliver.

But Hawes is taking the Madigans in a new direction, one Chris can get behind, and the two men form a shaky alliance strengthened by the irresistible attraction between them...until Chris learns who killed his partner. Once he knows the truth, the King Slayer is unleashed, and Chris will stop at nothing to destroy those who betrayed him, including the king who stole his heart.

Contains mature themes.

Good story but a little confused

It took me a long time to work up the nerve to listen to this. Mostly due to the fact it's single pov which I'm finding I don't like. I read prince of killers and had the same problem. The story is good but by the end I was so confused on what was going on that it took me several minutes after listening to construct what occurred. Rude cliff hanger ending though and I'm thrilled to finally be onto a new empire soon!

enjoyed it - solid 4 stars

<My review will be similar for the first three Fog City Books, because it really takes the 3 stories to complete the story arc.>

Would I listen to it again: yes
Did the story keep me engaged: yes
Was I invested in the characters: yes

📖 Story comment: I'm so glad I waited until I had the entire series before starting - OMG! - the cliff-hanger's 😲

I really enjoyed these books. I was completely absorbed with the characters, the action, the drama, the lies and deceit. King Slayer is from Chris's POV and he starts to move away from vengeance into what's really important. Things are complicated and its hard to know who can be trusted, the pace is good and the plot interesting - thoroughly entertaining!

🎧 Narrator comment: I enjoyed Tristan James's narration and think he's done a great job narrating the Hawes and Dante books of this series. There are a variety of accents and character personalities and I enjoyed the performance.

Mystery begins to unold

The drama continues to unfold in this ongoing mystery of who the traitor is, along with who's heading the resistance, all while Hawes and Chris/Dante struggle with their unavoidable attraction and chemistry.

It appears to be that the Madigan empire is beginning to fall, except the three siblings refuse to give up so easily. Traitors are beginning to get exposed, and the truth is starting to come to light. Meanwhile, Hawes and Madigan, even though they are technically on opposite sides, their connection bleeds through.

My continued complaint was the choice of the narrator. As made evident in the first installment, Tristan displayed no enthusiasm whatsoever, lacking emotions when needed and a lack of bringing the characters to life. I am so happy that I have previously listened to the conclusion, where the narrator's choice was a lot better.

Good but....

Story is good. However I feel played by publisher and audible. These three parts are one book. I mean come on. Why am I paying $14 for a five hr story each. When I’ve paid the same for a better written and narrated 16hr story?! Do better. It’s never good to take advantage.

Really good!

Loved the action and suspense!!! Definitely a moth to a flame type of MM romance! I also enjoyed the development of the supporting characters- again not too spicy - but the spice that was part of the story was 🌶️!
