Publisher's summary

We join Montana, recently returned from an impromptu study abroad trip, a bit wiser, a bit broader in perspective, and a lot freaked out by the once-dead person who's currently in his bedroom.

Possible zombie sightings aside, he's finally ready to take his job as Duke seriously. And just in time too - not only are the politics of the capital rapidly closing in on Montana's little valley holding, but there are also goblins to negotiate with. Plus, that cult threatening to take the lives of his citizens.

Montana will have to pull off the impossible - walk amongst the highest levels of Vuldranni society to influence world politics, and slaughter a few goblins in the process.

A fun rump with our muscle brained hero.

A fun ride, better than the previous book. Felt like the author had more fun writting this one. I enjoyed it and its price was acceptable.

More fun

Same as usual. More of the fun enjoyment we get out of this series. Yeah, there are some pretty dumb moments and a couple language inconsistencies (such as non-earth people referring to Greek Fire), but all in all, pretty good.

Getting really old, really fast

I can't stress enough for those wondering, yes, he's still whining about fishing and i don't wanna. Though there's now a glimpse of a SLIGHT increase of intelligence, he's still not getting with the program, rambling, and belly aching about being op even though low level in a world we'd sell family to get to.

Acting more like a Duke

A bit. It is always weird that he can barely emulate kingly ways. I suppose plebs will always be plebs

a MASTERful blend of main plot and side quests

Four Beheadings and a Funeral” by Eric Ugland is an exemplary addition to The Good Guys series, fully deserving of a 10/10 rating. The book’s deft handling of the vampire plot, resolving it swiftly without unnecessary prolongation, is a testament to Ugland’s storytelling prowess. The series excels in maintaining a coherent main storyline while introducing side quests that are intriguing yet concise. These side plots not only keep the narrative fresh and engaging but also cleverly contribute to the overarching story in unexpected ways. Ugland’s skill in intertwining these elements without losing focus is remarkable, ensuring that each book remains a critical piece of the larger narrative puzzle. This installment is a shining example of how to balance different plot threads in a way that enriches the main story while providing satisfying, self-contained adventures.
