Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Wild Space

First, the good: there are one or two good moments in the beginning of this book. The bad: after those good moments, the story plummets and is just mind-numbingly dull for the next 10 hours. Characterizations of Obi-wan and Organa are awful, the story creeps along and the only things that kept me listening to the entire book were (1) I was at work anyway, (2) it's still Star Wars, and (3) I hoped it would get better. Unfortunately, it's just no good at all.

To be perfectly honest, this is the worst book or audiobook I've read or listened to since Alan Dean Foster's THE APPROACHING STORM.The Author , Karen Miller takes many liberties with the characters , including Obi-wan, Bail Organa, And Padme. For example, Everyone knows that in Episode 2, Attack of the Clones, Obi-wan goes into the nightclub, and Has a drink, But in this story, Obi-wan refuses to drink, because, "Jedi do not drink". Also, Bail Organa and Obi-wan Kenobi's constant bickering is so out of character for both that I just could not listen to the book for more then 15 minuted at a time. The implied love affair between Padme and Organa was just too much for me. There are many other examples that make this story not fit into in Universe and Expanded Universe storylines. I enjoy Karen Travis's handling of the Clone Wars Series, But I am concerned that with Mrs. Miller Storytelling, The series will be a flop. I sure hope she is not writing for the cartoon series. If' I were you, I wouldn't waste my time listening to this book.

The overall storyline is well thought out. The only problem is that Karen Miller repeats every detail and idea that the characters think, it tiresome. The book could have been 6 hours shorter.

I didn't like how the author interprets the Jedi's in particular! Jedi's, in the clone wars era, were considered "old-school" and in this book they're VERY emotional, uncontrolled and thinking non-Jedi like! The Jedi's were completely out of character!
Dojo??? Who uses dojo in Star Wars universe to describe a training ground??! There are so many Star Wars wording options to describe a training school other than dojo! I know George Lucas is fond of Japanese Samurai movies and all... but DOJO's??? Come On!!
Although slow paced, the author did create some interesting thinking processes on the characters and some dialogs...
Sorry, two stars for you at the best!

Okay - this isn't an action packed book. There are some great sequences at the start but this book is really something else/more. It fills in the gaps of the relationship between Bail Organa and Obi Wan - we knew there had to be a link from Episode IV but it has never really been explained. The author does have her own perculiar style of writing and is long winded in a couple of areas but the story is building the relationship and backstory to episode III and beyond and so needs the indepth discussions that happen between characters.
Again I really applaud the publisher for releasing this book unabridged - keep them coming unabridged!

I never read the print version but listening to audiobooks let me get through more titles than reading the print editions because I can listen while doing other things like driving, working, etc.

Star Wars The Clone Wars because it is the next book in the series, at least I believe it is.

Yes the narration was pretty good, not the best I've heard but not the worst either. Some of the characters sounded close to their counterparts on the animated series.

The Cloud of the Sith

I read a lot of comments about this book saying it was dull and it talked too much about feelings and I think the reason a lot of people say this is they might have expected this book to be about Anakin and Snips. It is not, they make cameo appearances (and if you watch the TV series there is something that Anakin and Snips are off doing that was an episode while the main story is going on) but the story is mainly about Obi Wan.

The pacing is a bit off as it is a bit slow to start, an abridged version of this book might be better for some people, but I loved listening to the backstory and character developments. We learn how a lot of these characters end up personality wise, it's interesting to see how they get there.

There is a lot about feelings in this book and it is interesting to see how the Jedi struggle with attachment and how the teachings of the Jedi to not keep attachments IMO is not right (while at the same time not being completely wrong if that makes any sense).

If you liked The Clone Wars I believe you will like this one. There may not be as much action but as far as I'm concerned definitely not boring, I breezed through this book rather quickly!

Despite its enticing title, Wild Space is anything but. The author's laudable attempts to develop characters consist of extremely long conversations between characters, some taking (literally) over an hour, with very little in the way of action/adventure to spice things up. I'm a huge Star Wars fan but Wild Space just isn't a useful addition to the series.

This book was crap! It offered no entertainment value for me.

The author portrays some of the characters as if they suffer from border line personality disorder. The constant posturing and antagonizing between Bail and Obi-Wan is hardly fitting for a senator and jedi. Kinda reminded me of a high school level ethics /philosophy class.

The narrator did a decent job of it and the production was good. I plan on investigating other Star Wars titles by different authors.

the book is good depending on what you like it is a adventure book and a action book with tinge of romance
