Publisher's summary

As the battle against the Empire rages, a new crew of X-wing fighters risk life and machine on a daring undercover mission and emerge as the Rebel Alliance’s elite strike force.

It is Wedge Antilles’s boldest creation: a covert-action unit of X-wing fighters, its pilots drawn from the dregs of other units, castoffs and rejects being given one last chance. But before the new pilots can complete their training, the squadron’s base is attacked by former Imperial admiral Trigit and Wraith Squadron is forced to swing into action—taking over an Imperial warship and impersonating its crew.

The mission: to gain vital intelligence about Trigit’s secret weapons, to sabotage the admiral’s plans, and to lure him into an Alliance trap. However, the high-stakes gamble pits Wraith Squadron’s ragtag renegades against the Empire’s most brilliant master of guile and deception.

Are they up to the challenge?

If not, the penalty is instant death.

Excellence as always

Marc Thompson as always smashes it out of the park with his performance. The story is the beginning of another excellent series based on another group of misfits like the rogue squadron. Anyone who enjoys GOOD, CLASSIC, star story telling should pick this up.

A Special Ops Unit Is Born.

The late author is in top form here, focusing on the military aspect, character development, and more. Narrator Marc Thompson is also in excellent form, with different voices and accents for species, and more. Will wait for more of Star Wars Legends to get the audio recording treatment.

Another fantastic performance of the best series ever

I dislike that the rest of the series still isn't out yet! Let's go! :D

The SW ministry of ungentlemanly warfare

Wraith squadron is a great listen. Allston wrote such an intriguing story with great humor. It’s made even better by Marc Thompson’s narration.

New Squad New Focus

This is the first book of the Wraith Squadron trilogy. It used to be part of the X-Wing series, but has now been given its own series. After 4 great books author Stackpole needed a break and Aaron Allston took over. This book finds Wedge Antilles building a new squadron with more of a commando focus while Rogue Squadron was more of a pilots focus. Wedge finds “second rate” personnel to give them a new opportunity in a new squad. There were a number of new characters and I had difficulty keeping track of everyone and of the battles. I liked the squad interactions more and the pace moved quickly. The focus is on finding out more about warlord Jinja and his plans for a new empire. Marc Thompson is fabulous on the narration. We have a long wait until the next unabridged audiobook following this is out in June.

Flying high in outer space

Here we have, the majestic storyline of the old expanded universe without the sloppy storytelling of the Disney universe. I hope they realize that they should return to this universe one day when they run out of abridged novels to make. Or create a new timeline I can bines both the Disney universe and the old expanded universe.

Great story.

Mark goes a great job bringing to life these classic Star Wars stories, giving voices to characters and providing the correct amount of energy.

Prepare for something unique, hilarious, captivating, and one of the best cast and voice talents in the business

This is by far my favorite "Legends" story, and I've read over 50, including the previous entries in the Rogue Squadron /X Wing series. The author is considered one of the best of the series, and the audiobook performances feel like a full ensemble cast, and manage to be exactly how I imagined them when reading this all those years ago. I can die happy now knowing this finally has a full audiobook rendition, and it's so well done I could re-listen to it again immediately. Don't miss out on this rollercoaster!
