Publisher's summary

A gripping, painfully honest and ultimately inspirational, New York Times bestselling memoir from global superstar and creator of the Red Table Talk series Jada Pinkett Smith.

In a media driven landscape that crafts narratives for our celebrities, Smith recounts her story in an intimate conversation with readers. Along the way, she explores her path to accepting her power as a woman, and her discovery that a strong sense of self is every woman’s right and saving grace.

An impactful and rare memoir that engages and educates, Worthy is a courageous love song to self, to family, to life, and to the world.

From an unconventional upbringing in Baltimore, to an unconventional marriage to one of the most famous men in the world, adhering to the status quo has never been a familiar road for Jada Pinkett Smith. In Worthy, Smith strips herself of all the labels and stories crafted by others, and reclaims her narrative with radical self-love. Worthy teaches us who Jada is, and how to embrace our most authentic loveable souls.

Critic reviews

'Worthy is at its best when it’s sparky and spiky with self-doubt and humour' i NEWS

‘As a teen, she was a mid-level drug dealer on Baltimore’s streets, repeatedly mugged at gunpoint for whatever she held on her. Surviving such ordeals, and her more recent battles with alopecia, have given her a steely armour’ Daily Telegraph

'It’s a shame that Pinkett Smiths marriage has taken up so much attention because, as Worthy shows, it’s far from the most interesting thing about her’ Hadley Freeman, Sunday Times Magazine

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this book. Jada has given us a beautiful summary of her journey through her life process thus far with a commendable vulnerability. I’m blissfully surprised by the read/listen. I wish I could listen for another fourteen hours.

Brilliant - thank you Jada

I loved how she told her life’s journey to this point. So interesting, beautiful and inspiring. She wasn’t afraid to talk about the hardships. 💐 The book made me look at my own life and reflect. It’s also intriguing how easily people want to crucify her. Seems like she transitioning as with all the other steps and parts of her life’s journey. My hope is this opens doors for women to be kinder to ourselves.

Great story.

Jada-Pinketts Worthy

This memoir discussed three central themes mental health, spirituality and narcotics. She explains how these three themes influenced her, her upbringing and he adult life. I was afraid for her and now I realise she is reflecting on past events. This is an in-depth life story. I recommend this memoir.

Vulnerability and an honest return to self

Thank you Jada for this body of work, thank you for your bravery and for reminding us that we are worthy. The book is an affirmation for women, especially in a world that has made us believe that we owe the world an explanation on the decisions and choices we make for our lives.

Beautiful through it all

What a beautifully written book, on a beautiful life. Well done. Loved how the book speaks beautifully and respectfully of everyone mentioned - you give what you have. Sad, the book came to an end. lol. Happy, worthy journey to all reading this review.

A book about narcissism

The book is interesting. There are different stories that are interesting to hear. If you are a fan of biographies, this is a good pick.

What I don't like about the book is that in many places, it looks like the video of the cat walking through obstacles on YouTube. She is not trying at all to handle the conflict - she just talks about how she felt or Will felt. A time for healing and other stuff. But basically, this is what a narcissistic person is all about. You give so much priority on your feelings that you can't see that what you do is more important. And you don't say explicitly that it does not matter what you did and how you behaved, but when you spend 90% of the time explaining how you felt - you kind of imply that what you did was maybe not ok, but everyone would do the same if they were in your shoes. But this is the world we live in. The feelings are the most important thing, and if someone says something that makes you feel bad , it means that this person is broken, so he needs to heal and it is not your fault.
