Publisher's summary

Called on a dangerous assignment, leopard shifter Conner Vega returns to the Panama rain forest of his homeland, looking every bit the civilized male. But as a member of the most lethal of the shifter tribes, he doesn’t have a civilized bone in his body. He carries the scent of a wild animal in its prime, he bears the soul-crushing sins of past kills and he’s branded with the scars of shame inflicted by the woman he betrayed.

Isabeau Chandler is a Borneo shifter who’s never forgiven Conner - or forgotten him. The mating urge is still with her, and when she crosses Conner’s path, passions burn like wildfire. But as Conner’s mission draws Isabeau closer, another betrayal lies waiting in the shadows - and it’s the most perilous and intimate one of all.

Loved the story but....

The download claimed it was an unabridged version but in reality it was the abridged version. Very disappointing.

Where the female cries hysterically--victorian?

I'm about 15 minutes into this book and absolutely cannot tolerate the narrator's interpretation of the female. Every female line is poised on the edge of utter hysteria, like a swooning, high strung victorian victim on the verge of fainting at any moment. Apparently, to this narrator, women are still painted as hysterical, weak, tearful, & manipulattiv. The male interpretations and 3rd person narrative are relatively consistent with Feehan's style. I've read all 40-something of her books--maybe save 3 and nowhere are the females as insipid as in this book. Whether the author or narrator--time will tell.
Finishing this book--from my favorite author--will be, sadly, an endurance experience. I'd better get a hard copy.
