When you are worn-out, when you feel discouraged, when you think you don't have what it takes, what is the one thing that Jesus wants you to never forget? When Your Way Isn't Working equips you to discover authentic connection to God and others so you are free to live the life you long for.

In some of his final words to his closest friends, Jesus didn't suggest a five-year plan for success or a checklist of things to do. Instead, he offered a metaphor about what the good life really looks like: I am the vine. You are the branches. Abide in me. In other words, No matter what happens next, the most important thing is to stay connected to me.

In When Your Way Isn't Working, pastor and bestselling author Kyle Idleman offers a unique exploration of John 15 for all of us who are going through the motions and feel frustrated. Idleman reminds us that it's connection, not production, that leads to a fruitful life—relationships, not circumstances, that bring joy. He offers his distinctive, biblical perspective on how to:

  • Find greater rest, depth, and connection in your life
  • Embrace freedom from the pressures of performance and production
  • Recognize what you can't do makes room for what God can do
  • Step out of isolation even when it feels scary
  • Discover the top distractions that keep you from connecting to God—and how to counter them

In the end, the fruit of your life won't have to do with what you accomplished but with whom you stayed connected. Because no matter what happens next in this uncertain world, what matters most, lasts the longest, and brings the greatest joy is staying connected to the God who never leaves you.

Very Relatable

This book was very helpful to myself and my husband. As I started listening to it, I was thinking “this is good stuff.” Recommended it to my husband and we have both been asking the question, “how’s that working for me?” We’ve had our struggles in marriage and this has explained quite a bit. Thankful for how God has used Kyle as a vessel for so many to learn and glean from the truths in this book. Very relatable! Thank you!

Truly amazing! His best book yet!!

attending Southeast Church and listening to Kyle preach has always been a wonderful experience. Listening to Kyle read his own book makes me feel as if I’m right there with him. He provides a little insight into his personal life while being vulnerable. Amazing book!!!

Hope for the Hurting

Kyle share through personal experiences how everyone can get the point where their way isn’t working. All of us have been there, thinking we know what is best, just push through it, and don’t be a quitter. While we are able to see what appears to be a log in everyone’s else’s eyes, we fail to see the log in our eye, believing it to only be a speck. I hope this encourages you to talk to someone who is willing to tell you the truth in Love.

Thank you Kyle!

I’ve been up all night with a sick kiddo and I was so grateful for the timing of this book. A much needed reminder to stay connected to and abide in Jesus through all of life’s curveballs. This is the only book I’ve been able to listen to from start to finish in one sitting and enjoyed every second. Grateful for Kyle and his teaching.

Always Relatable

Kyle does the best job at working in stories of relevant, everyday life experiences into his sermons and books. Forever grateful for all his messages as he takes ancient scripture and always makes it socially relevant. One might say I’m a follower of Jesus, but a fan of Kyle.

This book wasn’t always working for me

I really enjoy Kyle’s writings. This specific book was oddly difficult for me to get through. I pushed through to the finish. Upon reflection, I think it may have been the use of too many “first world” examples throughout including; executive coaches, coffee pot debates, popular movies/shows, wave pools, white-water rafting vacations, repeated social media examples, etc. It’s just not deep. At times, it feels simple and trite. It feels… easy. It feels… tired. Hoping for better next time.
