Publisher's summary

"Narrator Angela Dawe’s warm voice varies seamlessly to capture the many characters, their fear, fortitude, and, in some cases, vileness. There is nothing subtle about this adventure, but it is exhilarating and hard to resist." (Washington Post)

From the best-selling author of Prayers for Sale, Sandra Dallas' Westering Women is an inspiring celebration of sisterhood on the perilous Overland Trail.

"If you are an adventuresome young woman of high moral character and fine health, are you willing to travel to California in search of a good husband?"

It's February, 1852, and all around Chicago, Maggie sees postings soliciting "eligible women" to travel to the gold mines of Goosetown. A young seamstress with a small daughter, she has nothing to lose. She joins 43 other women and two pious reverends on the dangerous 2,000-mile journey west.

None are prepared for the hardships they face on the trek or for the strengths they didn't know they possessed. Maggie discovers she’s not the only one looking to leave dark secrets behind. And when her past catches up with her, it becomes clear a band of sisters will do whatever it takes to protect one of their own.

history adventure and a good dose of women empower

I absolutely loved this book. over the years I've made a read many books about history and women's challenges through it sometimes I can't finish because it's just too sad and not enough positive to balance it out but this book absolutely could not stop!!! I even offer to cut the grass so I could keep my headphones and listen. the narrator is phenomenal she changes voices just enough so you know the characters and with every tragedy she backs it up with a positive way to look and I never once got the feeling that she was just trying to overwhelm us with tragedy!!!! Loved it loved it loved it loved it

Tale of Courageous Women

I thoroughly enjoyed this tale of courageous women , most leaving hardship and sorrow to find more along the way during their harsh journey west. Finally reaching their destination, they are able to find comfort and new beginnings....

If you love the West!

A group of misfit women form a wagon train to California. They meet the harshness and grueling difficulty of travel only to realize their lives of old were even worse. Only friendship and possibility lies before them. Some make it. Some don't. Only the bond of the women perseveres all. If you like this story too, read 1,000 White Women next! Enjoy!

great story!

well written and kept my attention throughout the entire story with a few unexpected twists and turns and really makes you understand the hardships of people that came from the East to the West Coast back in the 1800s. I'm not sure the people today could endure the hardships that they did crossing a wagons and having oxen and Indian attacks.

the author did a very good job in the narrator Angela Dawe is one of my favorites. I will definitely get more books by this author this is the first book I've listened to written by Sandra Dallas.

Wonderful Saga

I highly recommend you to listen to this book if you are looking for a riveting story of trials, tribulations, triumphs and strengths of a group of women taking the challenge of crossing the American west for hopes of a better future, You couldn't read a better book.

Ms Dallas did a brilliant job of capturing the heartfelt and heartrending saga. Angela Dawe was outstanding in her narration. But I warn you, be prepared to shed some tears.
