Publisher's summary

In the California coastal town of South Cove, Jill Gardner, owner of Coffee, Books, and More, becomes more engaged in sleuthing than wedding preparations when there's a murder in a dress shop....

Jill couldn't love Police Chief Greg King more - so why does that engagement ring still feel funny on her finger? At least she'll have a chance to show it off this Saturday at their engagement party. Just in time for the event, a new dress shop has opened in town, Exquisite Gowns for You, specializing in designer wedding gowns and other custom-fit dresses.

But Jill's excitement turns to shock when she comes by to pick up her dress for the party and discovers a dead body in the shop. New owner Harper Sanchez is behaving strangely and becoming more mysterious than anyone expected. Despite Greg's warnings to leave the case to him, Jill can't help looking into the murder. Somebody in South Cove is dressed to kill - and if Jill's not careful, she may not live to wear her wedding gown....

Wishy washy heroine

Love thev stories but heroine is annoyingly unconfident. Shes engaged and still thinks her fiancee is after wife #1. if you are that in secure you should not be engaged. I want to throw up with her stupid insecurities.

I have enyoed this series, but

I am a fan of this series, and this author, but this book left me very unsatisfied. The main plot thread was obvious from the very early chapters. And in the end, it isn’t clear to me who would be charged and with what crimes.

There are a great many tangling threads from subplots just left hanging. And just how many stores on Main Street (with second floor apartments) are there in this small- town

the larger mystery is why Jill keeps demonstrating that she will always interfere with her fiancée’s detective job, apparently because she feels that she is smarter or more capable of resolving the current problem, and yet he continues to say he loves her.

Engagement Party

Jill and Greg are officially engaged and Aunt Jackie is making lists. A new store open in South Cove with a well known designer at the helm. Jill stops by to pick up their dresses for the engagement party and finds a dead body in the dressing room. Nothing like a murder and rumor of a serial killer to ruin a plan. Great series and waiting eagerly for the next one.

Love this series

I love keeping up with the characters as they develop. Yes, the heroine snoops, kind of like Jessica Fletcher “Murder She Wrote,” in an endearing way. This is a cozy mystery and as such moves in a somewhat formulaic way that comforts rather than distracts. I enjoy the narrator having heard her in a different series and hope to hear her again in other series. All in all, well done!

Story with a twist

The mystery remains unsolved to the bitter end. Well written story. Nice continuing character development. The narrator has a wide range of voices, but the strange cadence and unusual emphasis are distracting.

Love the story, but the narrator is not my favorite.

This narrator has a style that puts me off. She emphasizes some words, especially names, oddly and it’s very distracting.
