Publisher's summary

At 29, Claire is full of the joys of life - that is, until her husband leaves her on the day she gives birth to her baby. With a broken heart, a beautiful newly born and an expanding mirror image, she decides to visit her eccentric family in Dublin. There she starts to feel better. So much better, in fact, that James is in for a surprise when he decides to slither back into her life.

I enjoyed it

I've read all of the other Walsh Family chronicles, so I was surprised to realize this was book 1. Thank you for bringing it to us, audible! I found the characters realistic and relatable. It was not my favorite of Keyes' books, but I enjoyed it.

Excessive Musings

I feel like this book wouldve gotten 5 stars if it didn't ramble so much. I don't need to hear every rambling thought of the main character. Oh my God!
For reference, I loved the Eleanor Oliphant novel.. But the internal dialogue of the this book was absolutely obnoxious. The plot barely moved because there was so much rambling filler.

I hope this is not how the author writes all her books because I can't take more of this.

Great narration

Very cute story. Marion Keyes is hysterical. I will definitely read more of her books.

True life

Narcissistic husband. Realizing she can’t control life. Letting go and reaping the benefits. So funny

3-3.5 stars

Well…I did like the
story AND I was also so annoyed at the constant stream of rambling consciousness by the main character. It made the plot move so painstakingly slow. There were times that I literally yelled at the book to GET TO THE POINT! it just was unbearable at times. So my rating is 3-3.5 stars. I found this author because I was looking for authors similar to MAEVE Binchy. I don’t know if I would say this author actually is. I want to give another one of her books a try but someone PLEASE tell me that this is not her writing style with the constant thought musings. Just oh my gosh. I almost couldn’t take one more second. If it wasn’t for the fact that I got invested in the story I don’t know I don’t know if I could have finished it. Also and this is just the Way it was read But the narrator sounded strong and confident and whenever she did the voice of the main character responding with “no”
Or “ok” it was just so child like and meek and made her sound so weak. I found that really annoying.

A fun read, every time

This book was my introduction to Marian Keyes and her writing, back when I was working in the Walmart photo lab in 1998 or 1999, and I bought this book from their display to read on my lunch break. I was an instant fan. I was hooked immediately by her smart and sassy writing style, and the story moves along at a perfect pace. I’ve looked on Audible for years, waiting for the audiobook, and it’s finally available! The narrator does a pretty decent job at reading it with the same inflections I always have as I read to myself, so 10/10 would recommend.

Disappointed

wasted an Audible credit. I loved This Charming Man by the same author and the premise of this book sounded promising. To say it didn't deliver is an understatement. Why someone would even for a millisecond consider taking back a man who left her alone after giving birth and then blamed her is a mystery. No interest in continuing the series either. Very disappointed.

Takes annoying to another place.

This was my first experience with this popular author and will probably be my last.
The main character was tooth-grindingly annoying. Very immature and quite pathetic.
I didn't wonder why her husband left her - just why he was there in the first place.

Terrible Narration

The narrator had a lovely voice when reading the role of Claire(possibly a bit old for the character) BUT her make voices were terrible, and the one she used for sassy Helen, was loud and screechy. Sadly, this ruined the book for me.
