Publisher's summary

Meet Tom. Or Dr O’Grady, as he used to be called. When you pass him on the street, most people don’t even give him a second glance. You see, Tom isn’t living his best life. Burdened by grief, he’s only got his loyal dog, Bette Davis, for company and a rucksack containing his whole world.

Then there’s Ruth and her son, DJ, who no longer have a place to call home. But Ruth believes that you can change the world by helping one person at a time - and Tom needs her help.

There are a thousand ways to find your home - you just need to be brave enough to look for them.

Terrific story

I really enjoyed it and thought both narrators were excellent. The characters were interesting, and Ruth who is autistic was particularly well drawn.

One Beautiful Surprise after Another

I love this story, the characters, the narators, and all the twists and turns the story took. What a long, surprising, and lovely ending!

I've found a new author to follow after reading th

This book came up under suggestions and I clicked on it. The subject was of interest to me. We've been to Ireland many times. But the issue of homelessness there is one I knew nothing about.
The main characters are two; forgive me but I am blanking on the woman's name. She and her ten year old son D.J. are made homeless when their flat is sold and they can't afford to pay for anything available. They are housed in a "hotel" where some of the rooms are for "social housing" residents. They have many rules regarding where they may go and what they may do. It is hard to gboth work, get her son to school which is now two bus rides away, and try to keep sane.

Mom is on the Asperger's spectrum, and having a family member with this, I found myself laughing and wanting to cry for this courageous, loving and very honest young woman. The other character is Tom, a homeless man who can be found in the park. There is a relationship from the past between these two. Together they work for changes in their and other people's lives. The book is truly wonderful. I just sent a Kindle copy to my best friend who told me she read it in less than two days, as did I, and loved it as well! Give this book a chance. I'm looking forward to my next book by Carmel Harrington. The narrators were spot on and were perfect for the book.

I went into this book with very high expectations...

And I wasn’t disappointed.
As with the other two books I’ve listened to by this author, this book had great, but flawed characters, that remind us, there is still some good in humanity.
The two narrators were also perfectly chosen.

good characters

at first I thought it was going to be too heavy,I like detective stories cause they tend not to stir deep emotions but this is the second book I've read by this author and they were both really good, heavy topics but great characters, interesting stories and situations, the narration is particularly good, just perfect.

Feel-good story

So glad I tried this one. A story that makes you root for the characters and cross your fingers that everything turns out well in the end. Home is truly where the people you love are.
