Publisher's summary

Perfect for fans of Elmore Leonard and Gillian Flynn.

Between fending off a lecherous parole officer and trying to get by in 1978 San Francisco, private investigator Colleen Hayes struggles to put her life back together so she can reconnect with her runaway teenage daughter. Then, her life changes dramatically. She accepts a case from wealthy, retired industrialist Edward Copeland. The old man is desperate to solve the brutal murder of his daughter, a murder that took place in Golden Gate Park 11 years earlier - during the Summer of Love. The case has since gone cold, her murderer never found. Now, in his final days, Copeland hires Colleen to find his daughter’s killer in hopes he might die in peace.

Colleen understands what it means to take a life - she spent a decade in prison for killing her ex. Battling her own demons, she immerses herself in San Francisco’s underbelly, where police corruption is rampant. Her investigation turns deadly as she pries for information, yet there is little to go on. However, a song on the radio makes her wonder - did the murdered girl leave any clues that others may have missed?

Moody atmospheric thriller

This story follows Colleen Hayes an excon soon to be PI through the dark seedy corrupt streets of San Francisco in the 70s. You follow along the moody story with matched music of the era, streets, and places of SF and the surrounding areas. The drizzle, mist and dark makes me feel like I’m back in the Bay Area! The story was well developed and had a few nice plot twists. I will definitely be reading and listening to more Colleen Hayes crime thrillers.

Vanishing in the Haight

Spoiler ⚠️

I thoroughly enjoyed this audio recording. I will read the next books 📚 in the series.
Not many PIS (she's not a PI yet) start with a record of manslaughter for killing her husband with a screwdriver. In her 1st case she attempts to find the killer of a dying man's daughter. It happened 11 years ago. The book is set in San Francisco, close to where I live, so the places she talks about are familiar to me.
I recommend this audio recording 👌.
