Publisher's summary

Amelia Pembroke is in a unique position in Regency England: She can obtain financial freedom. But in order to do so, she must marry one of two gentlemen. The trouble is, she might be falling in love with another man entirely.

1819, Kent, England - everything changed the moment Amelia became heiress to Moorington Cross. A young widow and patient at Cluett’s Mesmeric Hospital, Amelia is stunned to learn that her doctor - and the only father figure she’s ever known - has altered his will naming her his primary beneficiary. Such an opportunity is beyond what any Regency-era woman could dare to dream - especially one with a sleeping disorder that finds her falling asleep at the most random of times.

There is, however, a perplexing condition attached to the will: She must wed one of two named men, wholly unknown to her. Doing so would provide her with a secure future. But how can she marry one of these men when her heart is intrigued by the charming solicitor Mr. Hawkins?

Everything takes on a new sense of urgency - and danger - when Mr. Cluett is found dead in his bedchamber only hours after announcing his updated will. Now Amelia has 30 days to decide which man she will marry. But she is just as determined to uncover the truth of her benefactor’s demise with the help of Mr. Hawkins. After all, this sudden turn of events couldn’t merely be a coincidence - could it?

From award-winning author Abigail Wilson, Twilight at Moorington Cross is a mysterious Regency romance in the vein of Gothic tradition full of intrigue, mesmeric treatments, and abandoned corridors that proves love is the greatest testament of all.

the intrigue was in the last quarter

Clean but without Romacen for the first three quarters, with no action. The love started at the end with lots and lots of mysteries unraveling, to the point that I did not understand why the killer killed the wrong person !!

Great story

Very suspenseful. My only complaint is at times I got confused regarding who was speaking. Although the narrator was good, she definitely could have used a male narrator to help.

My favorite so far

In addition to the mystery, this one had a good amount of romance in it. More romance than in the other books in my opinion. I very much enjoyed it.

A clean but long story

I did enjoy this story however it seemed so long and took forever for the romance to begin. I loved the two main characters but it took awhile before anything started to happen between them.
It has a mystery and intrigue throughout which does keep your attention, the other characters are also interesting and the narrator is very easy to listen to.

Great Fun

I actually like this mystery/romance audiobook. I thought the narrator did an excellent job. It’s not easy for a female to do male voices and not sound funny. She actually made every gentleman sound pretty decent.

It’s hard to describe this book because there’s so many aspects to it. There are three love interests involved. Actually, I wouldn’t technically call two of them interests, but they are the two choices she has to make in order to receive the inheritance.

You almost want to hate the two gentlemen, but they are endearing in their own way. But Mr. Hawkins? Now, he’s the one that would have been my choice. I love the fact that he was kind to her, even when he thought she had lost her mind.

The thing about this book is that you have no idea who the murderer is until the end. Everyone seems guilty. I was able to guess the culprit, but I was actually shocked when it was revealed. It was just a fun book but I think the narrator made it even more exciting.

I love it when an author knows how to choose a Great Narrator, because they could make or ruin a good book.

So good!

I love that it was clean (thank you!), fast-paced, and unpredictable. I loved the characters. Amelia was strong without taking over the story, but fallible enough to be realistic without being helpless! Perfect mix of love, comedy, angst, and mystery. This is the second book I've read by this author, and I'm ready for the next!
