Publisher's summary

It’s been seven years. Seven long years since that cold and cruel Vampire King, Lucius, broke her heart. Her naive little heart destroyed after one painful night when she sneaked in to his Gothic nightclub, Transfusion. Seven years since he humiliated her, casting her aside and telling her just what he thought about her little obsession with him. Then he saved her life.

Well, now he is back, and this time he is out for blood, and all she can hope for is that it isn’t hers that’s on the menu. Because she is just your typical, ordinary, everyday girl who works and lives in London. Even if she is trying to make it on her own without the safety of her family. However, growing up knowing of the supernatural world and being human definitely has its drawbacks. Especially when a certain Vampire King has her in mind for a date and his dominant and forceful ways are sending her reignited obsession with him into overdrive.

But he does like her...doesn’t he?

Thrilling continuation

This continuation of the Afterlife series is fantastic! We finally get to be truly introduced to Lucius and his domain. Stephanie Hudson is a remarkable talent and Kelly Burke did a great job narrating this story. Her rendition of Pip however missed the mark.

Surprising!

I've read the book where the archaeologist uncovers the mystery object, then the Supernatural love interest appears ...yada dada. This is that book, but not really. Our young heroine has been hiding in her Museum Workshop and doesn't know much about herself. Her heart was broken at 17, and she never put it out there again. Consequently, she doesn't know much about men and women. oh she knows the supernatural part, Daddy being their King and all, but the complexities between a man and a woman are foreign to her.
Don't think this is some Sweet Love Story. It isn't. It is two sides (at least) trying to get & decipher a piece of antiquity. Good guys & bad guys? Maybe. May just be my team & yours. Don't know who's who yet.
The story is intriguing. The performance is quite good. The characters are interesting - gotta love Dante! But I don't trust Wendy (no reason, just don't.)
Give this series a try. I think you'll enjoy it, I certainly did!

Slow but entertaining

This book seems to toddle along. The plot is hinged more on Amelia’s neuroses than any particular action. I expect book two to be better, and I’m willing to read it just to see where Lucious decides to take things and explains his earlier cruelty. I can’t say exactly what draws me into their story, but I am mostly engaged.

Great story and great voice.

I have read the series, and it just gets better hearing it on audible. I love the way the voice actor speaks and expresses the characters. Good voice for a great story.

World's longest period of foreplay ever!

I loved the book, loved the performance, it was all great! I had only two issues. One: the CONSTANT inner monologues and ramblings drove me insane. The author goes off on these tangents that aren't even important to anything in the story but might have one small tidbit of info thats useful later. it's not worth the 30 minutes of listening I have to do to hear it, and the overly descriptive passages mixed with boring monologue flashbacks are irritating as all hell. I mean jesus, we spent three chapters listening to a flashback, and that's an important one! The unimportant ones took up far too much time and the editor needs to get a backbone and say enough is enough because this novel could have been better if they'd shaved off a few hours of nonsensical ramblings. If it had been shaved down to about 9 hours, it would've been perfection. Two: the tease. There's a lot of sexual tension here and while I understand why it's done this way, I'm not crazy about it. I thought this was for adults but it sounds more like it's for teens with the whole virgin schtick and it's going to make their first sexual encounter very satisfying or very annoying. I'm going to try to stick it out for the second book but all bets are off if they don't fix the tangents and lack of sexual encounters that we're all waiting for.

Read and listened to several times

I have enjoyed this book several times. I read or hear new things each time. it is not a classic move story, but a new look at food item love. A long over due experience in the romance field. But who wins in the end? Very good read and the Audible version is very vivid and true to the story.

This book was hard to rate

I couldn’t decide what to rate this book. The narrator was great as always. I love the meat of the story, it’s great, It’s fun and dark and captivating. I will listen to book two because I’m kinda loving our very bad boy hero.

My complaint is that this book has so much internal dialogue that I get bored. I actually skip two minutes and the same internal dialogue is still going on. I think the story could be shortened by two hours if you cut the internal dialogue to a reasonable amount. Plus alot of it is repetitive.

For my taste Amelia is a “princess” and not the smartest of one. She runs away because she doesn’t get what she wants. She was raised in a bubble and is not wise in worldly things. Plus she needs to learn to let things go, just my opinion. But none of this hurts the story too much so give it a try.

The only first person story I've truly enjoyed.

This is a truly balanced book, with light tongue in cheek comedy, intense plot, with some surprises. A must try.
