Publisher's summary

Underhill is my ruthless mother. Her realm is my deadly home. The brutal creatures here are both foe and friend.

But the group of fae that just attacked me? They’re all foe. Dragged from my game of hide-and-seek with a dragon and my home of 21 years, I’m thrust into a weak, ugly realm.

Earth.

Something is taking the fae children of the Irish court, and an Oracle has declared I must find them. Nope. Not my problem. Bye. Except a three-year-old girl they suspect is the next Queen of All Fae was taken too. She’s crucial to the success of my mother’s work and the well-being of all, including these simpering fae who’ve forgotten who they are.

Now they have my attention.

The child-snatching darkness flickers in and out of sight, spreading in secret, reaching through cracks and fissures to seize and steal the innocent. Yet I earned each breath in my life by understanding that which seeks to kill me. I will learn the ways of this enemy and find its lair, ideally without the Seelie and Unseelie males who only slow me—even if they’re not quite as stupid as most Earth-dwelling fae.

All I’m sure of is that Underhill is testing me. My mother is testing me in her typical, brutal fashion. And I will not fail.

If you adore Jennifer L. Armentrout, Sarah J. Mass, Holly Black, or Elise Kova, you’ll love this escape into a world of fae where heartaching romance exists and the odds seem impossible.

Loved this so much

This is such a great story! You are drawn in from the beginning and just can’t stop listening. The narration is well done and helps the story come to life. A great book that will pull you in and make the characters a part of your world.

Great new series!

This book puts us back in the fae world with new characters! These authors keep you wanting more with a heroine who doesn't trust... well anyone. She finds herself pairing up with a golden bat name Orry who is hilarious. Silver learns about the human world and learns to trust. She also finds out who is true to her. I was excited to see the Queen of all Fae make an appearance and of course the foul mouthed land kelpie.
I thought the narration was great and the different characters were easily distinguishable. I could listen to her voice all day. This book was fantastic lyrics done all around!

I was given a free audio book in exchange for an honest review.

Entertaining

Love these two authors! Always guaranteed to be introduced to interesting and entertaining new characters and an engaging adventurous storyline. The story is a fast paced with funny stumbling banter (reminded me of Ziva David from the TV series NCIS trying to master the English language with English / American idioms… lol) as they race against time to locate and rescue kidnapped little ones & a future queen. This enemies to something more has some spicy moments <fanning self>! The story ends on a hook, not cliffhanger. The narrator did a great job with providing unique voices for each character and appropriate tone inflections for each scene. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Excellent start to a new series

Wow! This book was wild from start to finish. It hits the ground running, quite literally, and the action never stops.

I loved Silver. The language barrier and misunderstanding of basic nuances was hilarious. I enjoyed watching her grow and change throughout the book.

Even the secondary characters are well written. Orlath is a top notch sidekick and I can’t wait to get more of her back story! Cormac and Aiden are delicious and so very different but both bring something to the story.

I can’t wait to see how Mayer and St. Clare continue this serious. I need more!

Finally excited for a new series!

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. I loved the characters each and every one. I actually didn’t go to dinner just so I could keep listening. I loved going back to Underhill. If we all could learn how to use less words we would get so much more done. I love the ‘bat”. Can’t wait to learn more about her hopefully in the d next book. Definitely recommend if you like Fae!

Absolutely Fantastic!

Same world as the Honey and Ice Trilogy after some time passing. Some old friends peek in for that nostalgic feeling. Shannon Mayer and Kelly St. Clair have created a fascinating world with colorful magic, literally. It's such an interesting concept. There is a fair share of snarky dialog, which I love in stories, so right up my alley. Which may hint at quite a bit of angst between the main characters which I also found fun. Shannon and Kelly do an amazing job of writing relationships, they cover the full spectrum of emotions, you've been warned. Such a great story, an evil stealing children from a race slow to procreate. Can the heroes get the children home and return to fight another day? Will the heroes kill each other first? The emotions are flying... I just can't wait for the next book in this series!!!!

This will leave you speechless!!

Excuse me while I pick my jaw off the floor I enjoyed the Honey and Ice trilogy but even it didn't draw me in like Silver does. As the feral Silver learns to work with other fae to save children from an evil foe you will fall in love right away! I love how honest and to the point she is and the steamyness in this epic book get a fan ready!! Amanda Dolan was the perfect voice for Silver and I can't wait to keep listening to her!!

Highly anticipated & added to my favorites of '22

Spin offs are not always great, sometimes they are mediocre. Yet this particular spin off to the Honey and Ice Trilogy? Well, it's fantastic! Set 3 years after the events in Crown of Petals and Ice, it's filled with all the wild action, mysterious happenings, and comedic relief you could want, along with slow burn steam. This can be read alone, however, to understand Underhill & the events leading up to this book, it wouldn't hurt to go back and read the trilogy. There are some Easter eggs and old friends that show up, but it is mostly about the feral-raised Silver in all her stark honesty, belief in balance, and endearing naïvety. Her upbringing broke my heart in some ways, but without it, she couldn't be the ultimate kickass female she is.
I loved "Silver", enjoyed seeing Kik and Queen of all Fae again, and adored little Orlaith "Orry", the golden bat with a hairstyling fetish, who is so much more than she appears. (She reminds me of Lila from the Desert Cursed series.) I can't wait to get her backstory! Then there's "Green Orbs" Aaden who understands "Silver's" succinct speech, and then grumpy Cormac AKA "Asshole" who also understands her & is much like her in their fighting, but annoys her and has "Silver" wanting to unalive him from their first meeting. Both males are interested and it makes for hilarity when her views of attractiveness were taught by a land Kelpie who prefers horse attributes over all.
Toss in an evil invasion and missing children, and you have a wild romp in and out of fae and human lands. I ripped through so fast, hardly able to stop and deal with holiday preparations, and stayed up late into the night just to find out what was going to happen next.
I have my theories of what may happen from the clues dropped, but will keep them to myself here. For if there's anything I know about the writing duo of Shannon Mayer & Kelly St. Clare, they'll point you one direction, but tap your opposite shoulder & like spin the bottle, you'll land in a completely unseen direction! I love twists, especially one's that I never see coming, and these authors are experts at it.
That ending! Such a hook! I turned the page, and felt like I'd been in a full speed carriage that suddenly came to a jarring stop and was still rocking! The next book can't come fast enough, I need to know all the things!

The narrator did a fabulous job, and funnily enough, the character I enjoyed her bringing to life the most was Orry in all her sassy glory!

Bravo 👏👏👏

Kelly and Shannon have done an outstanding job with this new series. It will keep you guessing through out the entire story. I love Sliver and her new side kick Orry. The new romance brewing between Sliver, Cormic, and Aden kept me guessing which one will she choose. Amanda Dolan does a fantastic job bringing the characters to life 👏👏👏.
