Publisher's summary

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Shanora Williams weaves an insidiously sexy, twist-filled novel in which a new bride’s fairytale marriage fast becomes a nightmare of secrets.…

Samira Wilder has never had it easy, and when her latest lousy job goes south, things only promise to get harder. Until she unexpectedly meets a man who will change her life forever. Renowned pro golfer Roland Graham is wealthy, handsome, and caring, and Samira is dazzled. Best of all, he seems to understand her better than anyone ever has. And though their relationship moves a bit fast, when Roland proposes, Samira accepts. She even agrees to relocate to his secluded Colorado mansion. After all, there’s nothing to keep her in Miami, and the mansion clearly makes him happy. Soon, they are married amid a media firestorm, and Samira can’t wait to make a fresh start—as the second Mrs. Graham.…

Samira settles into the mansion, blissfully happy—until she discovers long-hidden journals belonging to Roland’s late wife, Melanie, who died in a tragic accident. With each dusty page, Samira comes to realize that perhaps it was no accident at all—that perhaps her perfect husband is not as perfect as she thought. Even as her trust in Roland begins to dwindle and a shadow falls over her marriage and she begins to fear for her own life, Samira is determined to uncover the truth of Melanie’s troubled last days. But even good wives should know that the truth is not always what it seems.…

This novel was okay

This book was only okay. The narrator's Southern dialect was annoying, as were her male voices. The storyline was unnecessarily long. The author's portrayal of teen victims of sexual violence was appalling. Several times in the final chapters, these characters were blamed for being raped by an adult. For the record, as an Advocate of Sexual Assault for many years, fifteen year olds cannot legally consent to sex. I wished she would have also addressed this like she did regarding physical violence.

Good plot

The story was interesting but I couldn’t really relate to the characters and the writing seemed choppy. I think it could’ve been much better.

Good Story...WRONG NARRATOR

I ABSOLUTELY STRUGGLED to finish this book. im glad I stuck it out because I love the way the story unfolded even though some of decision making by these characters was cringy. The tone of this narrator just did not fit this story. No inflection or emotion just a very slow monotone. I imagined my daughter reading it to get through it. She has an amazing reading voice & would've been a perfect fit for this read.

Surprise surprise

What an interesting read. I will admit I was skeptical about the book. I was not of fan of the voice over maybe because I felt like it was the voice of Aquafina (I hope I didn’t just torture this woman’s name)the actress and comedian. I’m not sure, but I am glad that I pushed through because it was indeed a great read. The depth of the characters , the betrayal, and the sadness had me driving off of a cliff of emotions (pun intended). If you’re looking for a joy ride this is it! Happy Reading!

Twists and Turns

A lot of good twists and turns in this thriller; however the southern accent in the performance of the first wife is a bit distracting.
