Publisher's summary

A political scion and her magically bound fire warlock must face their greatest fears to save the Empire from a ruthless enemy in the explosive conclusion of a spellbinding fantasy trilogy from David Gemmell Award-nominated author Melissa Caruso.

While winter snows keep the Witch Lord Ruven’s invading armies at bay, Lady Amalia Cornaro and the fire warlock Zaira attempt to change the fate of mages in the Raverran Empire forever, earning the enmity of those in power who will do anything to keep all magic under tight imperial control. But in the season of the Serene City’s great masquerade, Ruven executes a devastating surprise strike at the heart of the Empire—and at everything Amalia holds most dear.

To stand a chance of defeating Ruven, Amalia and Zaira must face their worst nightmares, expose their deepest secrets, and unleash Zaira’s most devastating fire.

Fantastic! So very worth the extended wait

Certainly, I thought the entire trilogy was fantastic. Every book had me more entrenched into caring about the characters and the storyline. This, the final book of the trilogy, did not release an audiobook for three long years. I heard all my friends rave about how good it was, and with this tease, I waited. It was worth the wait. Thank you Melissa for your incredible imagination, your intriguing storyline with more than my anticipated twists and turns . Most of all thank you for the enjoyment in the read. Great work, and I hope many others get to appreciate your gifts. I look forward to the next trilogy!

in the end

Amalia got her bamf card, and made some tough decisions. I did get annoyed with her at a few junctures, however, she is human. overall, enjoyed the way this ended, how it ended as a final book of the trilogy, and not many loose ends left as a reader. and the narrator is just top notch!

Really good

The narrators does a really good job with tone variation and delivery and the plot and characters are interesting. Some of the dialogue is cringe to listen to but it’s manageable. Definitely worth the read if you’ve made it this far into the series
