Publisher's summary

Book three of the Ciaphas Cain series.

An old rival, infighting with fellow Astra Militarum regiments and the small matter of a cult devoted to the Chaos God Slaanesh derail Commissar Cain's hope for a quiet and uneventful mission.

Ciaphas Cain's latest mission takes him and his Valhallan regiment to the planet of Adumbria to defend against an approaching Chaos invasion. However, infighting with fellow Imperial Guard regiments from the world of Tallarn, commanded by an old 'friend' of Cain's from the Schola Progenium and the uprising of a sinister cult on the planet puts paid to any hopes of an easy life.

Another great addition to the series

The action was top notch, as usual.
The story line was interesting, a lot of plot points get recycled from previous entries.
The performance was what really made this another level. Bringing in as much talent as they have, really enhanced the experience

Great story

The chapters didn't line up correctly to the marked spots. There were also a few spots where the audio was cut together poorly. Amazing story and phenomenal readers, even with the minor performance flaws, I highly recommend this.

Technical issues

Love this book and was really happy when I found it, but it seems unedited and as someone was playing around with the voice actors voices. Other than that loved it when it went smoothly

Best Cain Novel Yet!

Amazing story, funny as always, great acting! Odd pauses in narration though. Perfect story otherwise!

Good Read

Editing and sound mixing is a bit funky sometimes, but nothing that ruins the overall performance.

Story-wise, it does end a bit abruptly but otherwise is a fun story introducing chaos to the series.

Amazing Story

Overall, I thought that the book was terrific and that the story was well written. However, the only issue I had with the story was that Amberly's interjections were far more abrupt and unexpected than in previous books. I was often startled and taken out of the story with how sudden the audio would switch from one character to Amberly. But, I still immensely enjoyed the book nonetheless.

How am I going to get out of this one

Just as good as when I 1st read the novel. The narration is just as I pictured in my head.
