Publisher's summary

Every generation faces the temptation to wander from orthodoxy—to seek out the jolt that comes with false teaching, and to drift with cultural currents. And so every generation must be awakened again to the thrill of orthodoxy, and experience the astonishment that comes from stumbling afresh upon the electrifying paradoxes at the heart of the Christian faith.

In The Thrill of Orthodoxy, Trevin Wax turns the tables on those who believe Christian teaching is narrow and outdated. Returning to the church's creeds, he explains what orthodoxy is and why we can have proper confidence in it, and lays out common ways we can stray from it. By showing how heresies are always actually narrower than orthodoxy—taking one aspect of the truth and wielding it as a weapon against others—Wax beckons us away from the broad road that ultimately proves bland and boring, and toward the straight and narrow path, where true adventure can be found.

Experience the deeper and wider wonder of the living Bible

Thank you for jumping starting my wonder towards the beauty of orthodoxy! The power isn’t seeing; it’s in sharing.

refreshing

I love how Wax brings out why solid theology based on God's timeless Word is so important. Sometimes it's tempting think, "why does this even matter if it's not hurting anyone?" Favorite thought, "how many universalists are rushing to the adventure of the mission field?"

Clear and Invigorating

I think Trevin did a wonderful job to accomplish his purpose. He demonstrated the thrill of being an orthodox Christian. The writing style is clear and pleasant. The content is very valuable. I loved this book and hope to recommend it to anyone who may be considering deconstructing or if they’re even just unexcited about the faith. My only complaint is about the audio. It is a little softer than most audio books and hard to get loud enough on my phone speakers.

Misleading Title - Not actually Orthodox

I was misled by the title as this book is not about the Orthodox Christian Faith. As an Orthodox catechumen soon to be Baptized into the Orthodox faith I was eager to listen to this book. Unfortunately, even though the name says it is about Orthodoxy it is only the authors attempt to ___ fill in the blank. If Trevin is truly interested in learning something old to help with that which is new then he should actually consider the Eastern Orthodox Faith. There is a reason for the name, as it is the one true correct faith and belief. It would be nice if the author was more honest in naming this book, something like "The Thrill of Repackaged Evangelism" comes to mind. To be honest I have only listened to the first 2 chapters but I am very disappointed with this book.
