Publisher's summary

Bad things happen in threes; at least, that's what Annie Fullerton has always believed. And the way her life is shaping up, she feels like the proverbial poster girl! Her career as an up-and-coming sous chef has gone up in smoke, she's lost her beloved pet, and then her roommate, Danica, has betrayed her in the worst possible way. It's the straw that breaks the camel's back. I mean, come on! A person can only take so much!

In a sudden impulsive move, Annie pulls up stakes in the big city and drives out of Dodge to start over. When she finds herself on a remote Gulf Island on BC's west coast, she unexpectedly lands a job at The Scarlet Armadillo—a quaint and tiny café in a quaint and even tinier community.

But, after a few weeks on the job, and for reasons Annie can't explain, it seems everyone who eats her Soup D'Jour sees their luck changed for the better, be it in their career, studies, finances, or even in love. Is there something in the water, or does Annie have skills she isn't aware of?

When she receives something precious in the mail—something that belonged to her recently departed, and much-loved grandmother—Annie discovers a little something about magic, meals, men, and most importantly, the unique ingredients so vital for living a happy life.

A lovely story as comforting as soup

The Scarlet Armadillo by Carol Anne Shaw is a wonderful story of self discovery, love, life and friendship. The book is well written and the characters are realistic described, even the quirky ones. The narration by the author is fabulous. She created the story on paper and her performance breathes life into it. I highly recommend this book.

A great story

I really enjoyed this story. It had some great humor and a touch of sadness. Annie was a fabulous character who was just trying to get her life together. After a humiliating break up Annie decided to move to a new place & start a new life. She finally found a small town that peaked her interest. She started to settle in. She had a new job at The Scarlet Armadillo & people said her soup was magic Annie hoped she had finally found happiness. I loved it and found the narrator added the perfect touch.

THE WONDERS OF SOUP!

This was a delightful story of self-discovery, self-love, and the wonders of a good bowl of soup! Life has its ups and downs...mostly downs for Anne, BUT she strikes out onto the road, looking for a change, and ends up finding her own happiness, along with a few quirky characters! This is a fun listen and read!

A fun enjoyable read

I needed a break from the heaviness of the world and I decided to listen to this book. I enjoyed every moment of it. It's read by the author and Carol Ann is a wonderful narrator. She brought the characters to life and with every one that had an accent she was able to do it. I enjoyed the settings which were well described and the characters who were funky and memorable. The descriptions of food made me really hungry and I wondered if the author is also a good cook. I highly recommend this book to anyone who longs for something fun and simple and enjoyable.
This book is for grown ups and has a lot of language but if you're looking for an excellent book for middle to high school students I would encourage you to read this author's book, The Peculiar Language of Llamas. It's one of the funniest most enjoyable books I've ever listened to.

Smart and Quietly Witty

Carol Anne Shaw reads as smoothly as she writes. An engaging story of hope in midst of our warring world.

Soup Magic

The Scarlet Armadillo is a wonderfully written book that depicts loss, grief, betrayal, adventure, strength, and, better yet, a new beginning. Annie was just trying to live her life to its fullest when suddenly everything that could go wrong could and did. Annie decides it's time to puck herself up and sets off on the adventure of a lifetime one that will change her life forever. I loved how the author developed Annie character and made her stronger and smarter. The storyline and characters are realistic and entertaining. Please don't get me wrong, there are a couple of characters I wanted to use as shark bait but, all in all, I loved this story. Carol Anne Shaw seriously brought the story off the pages into reality for me she did a phenomenal job narrating her own book. Bravo 👏.
I received this book for free upon my request. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a fantastic story of new beginnings and adventure. This is my honest, unbiased review that I am leaving here voluntarily of my own free will.
