Publisher's summary

A funny, warmhearted novel about falling in love, falling apart, and pulling it all together again by the bestselling author of Matchmaking for Beginners.

After three marriages and a lot of living, resilient Billie Slate knows exactly what trouble love can bring. Now she’s reinvented herself as the Heartbreak Bunny, an on-call performance artist who can heal anyone who’s been burned by that four-letter word, LOVE, by hopping about and whisking away sad mementos from their past relationships.

Call it magic. Call it peculiar. But her bunny costume is as perfect as her breakup mantra: SNAP OUT OF IT.

As Billie’s business goes viral and skyrockets her to sudden fame, her comfortable life turns surreal: her daughter’s marriage begins to fail, and Victor, aka Worst Husband Ever, wants not only to bond with the daughter he left but to win Billie back. Only, he’s got competition: a charming widower might be falling in love with a woman who no longer believes in love.

As every romantic notion Billie had pushed away starts pushing back, the Heartbreak Bunny must confront the possibility that, just maybe, love has some tricks left up its sleeve.

Critic reviews

Snap Out of It is a laugh-out-loud delight from start to finish with characters that are drawn with a unique wisdom and insight into human nature. My heart is full, and I am still smiling. I absolutely loved this book.” —Annabel Monaghan, author of Nora Goes Off Script

“Maddie Dawson has a rare ability to craft quirky, offbeat characters that are also utterly believable. Dawson is at the top of her game with Snap Out of It, a magical, wise, tender, joyously relatable read. From the moment Billie the Heartbreak Bunny stepped onto the page, I felt as though I’d met a soulmate. There is only a handful of authors whose name on the cover elicits from me an automatic buy; Maddie Dawson is one of them.” —Marie Bostwick, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Restoration of Celia Fairchild

“Maddie Dawson’s Snap Out of It is as delightful as it is original. Protagonist Billie Slate is on a one-woman mission to rid the world of unnecessary heartbreak—while dressed in a bunny suit. The consequences are both messy and magical. Dawson has given us an utterly charming story that manages to be both light and profound; it is a clear-eyed and sometimes laugh-out-loud look at the complications of grown-up love with an important lesson at its heart: healing is always possible when we keep our heart open to the possibilities of love.” —Barbara Davis, bestselling author of The Keeper of Happy Endings

Another great read from Maddie Dawson

First, I have to admit I've never listened to anything by Maddie Dawson that I didn't love. She has a way with words, a way of looking at life that is perfection to me. Billie was a delight and watching her work through her own pain and grief while she helped others move on from bad breakups was great fun. Ok, maybe the bunny costume was a little silly but the message was spot on. The cast of characters, especially Calvin, rounded out the story nicely. Will listen again.

REFRESHINGLY WONDERFUL

FINALLY a romance story with older characters!!! 60 year old divorced woman who is negative about love starts her own business to help others rid themselves of heartache and belongings that are associated with the pain. Lots of wonderful side characters are introduced in this process. The love interest Mason opens her heart to possibilities. Behind the door sex scenes, which were well done and glad they were included to show real life of older adults. This is a new author and narrator to me and both were great, I will be looking for more from these two. This book starts out silly, so I was not sure I would stick with it but I am glad I did it was a refreshing funny listen.

Not as good as Maddie Dawson’s other novels

It was ‘overcooked. She wasn’t her typical gifted writer. Book dragged in some chapters and it wasn’t that enjoyable to stay with this implausible story. I expected more. Waited for her new book and was disappointed.

4 Stars!

A very cute read. I’m amazed at how much I enjoyed this story about a 60-year-old woman and her daughter, her “found” family, her unique career, and possible love. I really liked Billie. Almost as much as her 90-year-old tenant, Calvin. She was rather crazy at times, but also interspersed with emotional wisdom. The whole story was unique and I actually didn’t mind the “witch” and magic references. They added another level of unusual to this entertaining women’s fic.

Great story and easy to follow.

I often listen while I am cleaning or otherwise engaged in an activity. I didn’t have to stop and go back to keep with with what was happening. Cute story and I enjoyed the narrator.

Witty, smart, heartfelt

I really enjoyed the humor and the storyline. There is so much love in this book, both in expected ways, as well as unexpected ways.
