Publisher's summary

Alaska is a rough, beautiful country ruled by a famously eccentric royal family, including oldest daughter, Princess Alexandria, whose acid wit and bad case of insomnia have turned her into a tabloid darling, a palace problem, and overall...

Marine biologist Dr. Shel ("Never Sheldon") Rivers has a problem. Some princess expects him to wait on her, hand and dimpled foot. His boss is taken with the royal redhead, and nobody realizes that he just wants to be left alone in his lab.

Now here's Miss Royalpants, insisting that he escort her around the marine institute, explain what he's doing, kiss her until her toes curl...no, wait, that was his idea. She's not even apologetic about being born into a royal family! Says it's his problem to overcome, not hers. Which leaves him with one option: to kiss her again. And again.

So she's nothing like he expected. In fact, Dr. Rivers can see that this fantastic, exasperating woman has problems no princess should ever have to deal with. And he has an idea to help her get some much-needed sleep. Of course, it involves getting very, very tired beforehand, but if she's up to it, then so is he...

Contains mature themes.

I really enjoyed this series

The Royal Pain

This is my review for books 1 to 3 of the Royal Series (no spoilers)
Each audiobook is a stand-alone complete story, but you will get most out of them when you read them in the correct order. They all involve the royal family of Alaska, and it’s so much more fun when you get to know them.

I really enjoyed this series. Mostly because of the humor, writing style and ‘non traditional’ romance.
Usually in romance stories there is a certain build up, drama that pushes the couple apart and then a reconciliation.
The patterns and pace in these books are pleasantly different and sometimes unpredictable.
A breath of fresh air in the rom-com genre for me.
Highly recommended for a non-traditional romantic relaxing hilarious break from life.

I liked the narration. Emotions, sarcasm and timing were nicely done.
I did have trouble separating thoughts from speech and distinguishing characters from time to time.

I hope some of MaryJanice’s series (including this one) will get bundled in the future.
I was able to buy book 2 and 3 in a sale, and book 1 is currently free via audible+ (appreciated!)
But I wouldn’t have spent a whole credit on each separate book, no matter how much I enjoyed them.
And apart from the cost, it’s much more user friendly to just press play on a trilogy and keep listening then to locate and download each book separately.

Light-hearted and engaging

I really enjoy Maryjanice Davidson’s writings. Her characters are very three-dimensional. I read this series quite a few years ago and I’m glad I got the audio too.
