They, and other members of their family, are Marines, but there is more to their stories - much more. On February 20, 1945, the second day of the assault on Iwo Jima - one of the bloodiest battles of the Pacific theater in World War II - Private Jack Lucas, who was only 17, and three other Marines engaged in a close-proximity firefight with Japanese soldiers. When two enemy grenades landed in their trench, Lucas jumped on one and pulled the other under his body to save the lives of his comrades. Brilliantly written... and narrated
Remains Of The Corps is an outstanding novel. With his insightful descriptions and dialog the author makes you feel like you are standing alongside the characters as their journey begins. I am looking forward to the next volume in this wonderfully written story. I also recommend that purchasers of the audio book take the time to browse through the illustrations in at accompanying pdf file.

Easy listen, great story.
The pairing between this book and the narrator was a fitting marriage. The story is rich and the characters are compelling. The audiobook does a stellar job of painting a picture for the mind as your listening through what seems to be a movie. I truly look forward to more installments in this story!

The Perfect Narrator
Grover Gardener's voice is pleasantly clear and articulate with the perfect amount of gravel, which gives him such a relatable down-to-earth feel that keeps you listening. His voice melds beautifully with the tone of this historical drama tha is filled with real-life characters from all walks of life brought together by the circumstances of the beginning of WWI. Gardener truly feels like he's enjoying the story as he reads and not just saying words from a page.
