Publisher's summary

From New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes a new story in her Wicked series....

She’s everything he wants....

Cold. Heartless. Deadly. Whispers of his name alone bring fear to fae and mortals alike. The Prince. There is nothing in the mortal world more dangerous than him. Haunted by a past he couldn’t control, all Caden desires is revenge against those who’d wronged him, trapping him in never-ending nightmare. And there is one person he knows can help him.

She’s everything he can’t have....

Raised within the Order, Brighton Jussier knows just how dangerous the Prince is, reformed or not. She’d seen firsthand what atrocities he could be capable of. The last thing she wants to do is help him, but he leaves her little choice. Forced to work alongside him, she begins to see the man under the bitter ice. Yearning for him feels like the definition of insanity, but there’s no denying the heat in his touch and the wicked promise is his stare.

She’s everything he’ll take....

But there’s someone out there who wants to return the Prince to his former self. A walking, breathing nightmare that is hell-bent on destroying the world and everyone close to him. The last thing either of them needs is a distraction, but with the attraction growing between them each now, the one thing he wants more than anything may be the one thing that will be his undoing.

She’s everything he’d die for....

Worth reading this series

I read the Wicked series and wasn’t sure if these books would be worth reading but they didn’t disappoint! Best read after reading the first 3 books in the first series.

Ivy is that you?!

Great novella/spin off, however, I found myself forgetting Brighton was Brighton and not Ivy most of the time. The attitudes are fairly similar and at first she had a thick accent (which is what reminded me it wasnt Ivy haha), and then it would come and go... then it was non-existent. The Brighton from the original trilogy seemed way way different. But alas, still a very good story. Moving onto "The King" now.

One of the Best novella's I've ever read

I have always struggled with the ideas of novella's as I had not experienced one that did the original stories any justice but Jennifer definitely delivered on this one

Awful narration

I've never heard such awful accents for all the male characters. Very off-putting. I would have abandoned the book if I didn't want to read the follow-up book.

Holy Freaking Cliffhanger, Batman!

I just finished the wicked trilogy and saw that this was a standalone novella about outlier characters. I honestly was more invested in these characters and their relationship than I was with the main characters in the original trilogy.

HOWEVER they end on a cliffhanger. No resolution... just heartache and a big ol' surprise and no satisfaction. NONE! It's like being on the edge of the BIG O and then just stopping and going on about your day. NO!! N.O. NO!!!

Am I bitter? Perhaps? Was the story enjoyable... Well obviously it was good enough to get me emotionally invested but YE BE WARNED!!! Trifflin' be a foot. Straight Trifflin'.

But yeah, read/listen to it... but be prepared...

I might update later when I am no longer bitter and the follow up novella 1001 Dark Nights The King comes out... but for now THIS IS WHAT IT IS...

Ratings
Overall ★★★★★ I really enjoyed this novella. More please!

Performances ★★★★★ I loved that I could bump up the playback speed and still enjoy the different character voices Amy Landon did.

Story ★★★★★

I love novellas, and this was a nice bonus to the Wicked trilogy. It was a quick and easily engaging read / listen that I highly recommend to paranormal fans.

There was a tragic event that helped inspire the heroine Brighton to change her passive role in the Order to a secretly more active and dangerous one. That ultimately led to her teaming up with Caden, the formerly wicked Summer Prince. The focus was on their combined revenge mission, but we also got a few moments that showed us their attraction was undeniably building and leading to romantic feelings for Brighton at least.

And of course, I have to mention that I crazy loved how any appearance by or mention of Tink, my favorite magical Brownie being, made me smile or outright laugh. He had to stay at Brighton’s place for a while which was an entertaining bonus. Whether Tink was in his tiny aka fun-size or his full size, I loved how Amy Landon voiced him so distinctly for each. Dixon, Tink’s adorable pet cat, was also a fun additional guest at Brighton’s place.

Per the publisher, ‘Every 1,001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series.’ So, the ending, while not exactly a cliff hanger according to the publisher’s note, was still very mysterious to me. I’m betting there will be another novel or novella expanding on the new roles Brighton and Caden will play next.

I have no doubt that new fans to the Wicked trilogy will definitely want to go back and read / listen to 1-Wicked, 2-Torn and 3-Brave in the main trilogy after this very engaging reading experience.

Didn't love it

I love JLA books! Thought I had read them all and found this one and felt like I had to read it. The Wicked saga was one of my all time favorites so I couldn't wait to read it. I really didn't love it at all. The narrator has a weird annoying voice where she drags out the end of every sentence and you feel like a a robot is talking. The story was just lacking the usual build up between the two characters. Brighton was just plain boring compared to Ivy. The prince had absolutely no personality at all. I just felt like I couldn't wait for it to be over. Then I thought this was a novella? a standalone book? Nope, there's 3 in this series. I can't continue though. Not loving it.
