Publisher's summary

Her brother Alec, Earl of Rawdon, has joyously wed his true love, but Genevieve Stafford anticipates no such unabashed emotion on her wedding day. The icily beautiful aristocrat is to marry Lord Dursbury, and love is not part of the bargain. But when someone frames Genevieve in a cruel scheme, the scandal shatters her engagement and her respectability. So why has Sir Myles Thorwood gallantly offered to marry her? Handsome, flirtatious Myles is her opposite in many ways, yet he understands her the way no other man ever has. Trumping her expectations of a loveless marriage, Myles shows Genevieve just what it means to be man and wife...but are his attentions mere kindness or true devotion? Will their passion endure for more than a passing season?

She finally figured out she loved him but didn’t listen to her own inner voice.

Because of the time we live in it is incredible to think that someone who is twenty something doesn’t know what goes on in the bedroom between a man and a woman. What a terrible time to live! It is always fun to listen to these young, naive women discover how beautiful the male body is and start taking delight in their partner - married or not. Having to put up with the gossip and backbiting of the Ton could not have been nice either. Since most people don’t marry for love it seems, the competition to marry is unbelievable, especially for 18 and 19 year olds. It makes me glad that I have lived in the late 20th and the 21st centuries. As for this story, it was a very good listen. Miles is the type of man who is delightful to be around most of the time and Ginny, although a little prickly, has her good side too. You find yourself rooting for both of them in their little tête-à-tête because they are both so confused but who sits down a really talks in this time? I was pleasantly surprised that I guessed wrong as to who was the villain. It was a good, surprise ending.

Really good one

I totally enjoyed this one. It was well written and the story and characters were really interesting. It had some steamy moments but they were well done and important to show the love building between them. Loved it. Narration was also great 😊

Wonderful

Intelligent characters and smart women. Really enjoyed this story. I listen to a lot of regency books and this one stood out. The narrator also did well

The characters

I really enjoyed this story. The characters seem need to be intelligent and pretty easy to get along with. Ginny might have been a little prickly ( but I think it is how she was raised); but she has a kind side and Myles was a really goods character. He was a lovely man.

Big Meh

Silly, one-dimensional characters who are either so good or so evil they’re straight out of a cartoon leave you not giving a rat’s rump what happens to them.

I must have listened to something read by this narrator before, likely by the same author since the word “grimace” appears far more than it should, and every time the narrator mispronounces it as “grim-ACE.” I actually busted out laughing at one point it sounded so stupid.

The story is fine if you have housework or a 20-mile walk to cover…it’s not AWFUL, it’s just “meh.”

A disappointment — possible SPOILERS

I usually love Candace Camp’s books, but this one fell short —- the humiliation, degradation and ostracism Genevieve had to go through because of a jealous, evil woman was just too much; it significantly detracted from my enjoyment of the book. And was there a payoff? No! The ending was too abrupt, and there was no epilogue to tie everything together! VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!!😩😩😩

Not clean

This was the first book I have read by this author. Although this was well written , I could not finish. There was too much sexual content for my taste. If you’re looking for a clean / proper romance, don’t listen to this.
