I just love it

Live it, love it, love it! All characters are so vivid and consistent that I feel as they are real. I truly believe Coopers chase could be visited and the gang will be there :) This is not a classic crime book as the stories are always very naive, but you want to go around after Elizabeth and Joyce and just live in their world for a while.

Delightful

Richard Osman wove his magic superbly once again. From the delightfully authentic characters which regularly had me chuckling, to the rapidly increasing body count, I was hooked. Thank you, Richard!

Each book in the series is better than the last

I love these series of books. I look forward to catching up with the characters and following them in their adventures. This book is the best yet, and the narration is wonderful, as always. Can’t wait for book 5 next year.

Love the sinners and devils alike

Mr Osman had me gripped again with the twists and turns and even when I try to anticipate the who-dunnit, I am wrong! Love being out danced and captivated by this wonderful group of pensioners. Love the philosophy, the heart and the awareness of the fragility of life.

The best in the series

A retiree myself, I have found the Thursday Murder Club books satisfying and rewarding. I eagerly await each new one and have not been disappointed. This one however has a depth and poignancy I wasn’t expecting but thoroughly appreciated. I never cry when I watch a movie or read a book but I did listening to this one. Both the writing and the performance were magnificent.

The Thursday Murder Club has done it again!

Richard Osman has such a wonderful way of writing his very believable characters. I can’t say any more without giving any spoilers, but I laughed and I cried and enjoyed every thought provoking word of this well written and read book.

Twists, Turns & Endings

Richard Osman has the most incredible grasp of character description without wasting a word. Fiona has a wonderful grasp of the voices and it feels like none of the characters have changed their sound.
You have new facets revealed for each of the gang, new tidbits of their experiences (pre Cooper’s Chase) offered, and the roller coaster of emotions they experience is so relatable.
*SPOILER*…….the description of Stephen’s decline (across all 4 books) is heartbreaking, real and devastating. His own response and ultimate choice are understandable but uncomfortable to read.
Grief is very real. The threads of grief throughout the book are woven so gently and carefully it’s like laying a blanket across your knees.

I hope there is a next book, but there is a feeling that some character arcs are ending.
More please - I want to visit Coopers Chase again and have a cup of tea and a catch-up with Joyce.

Compelling story on many levels.

Compelling story on many levels, the heroin smugglers aspect, the antiques trade aspect but manly the interaction between the various characters on so many levels in solving several mysteries as well as the expected murders.
The storyline about Elizabeth’s husband Stephen was sensitively dealt with without being preachy or maudlin & gave another depth to the characters of cast of elderly sleuths.
Fiona Shaw’s reading of the book added to the enjoyment of it , the reader always knew who was talking by her subtle use of accents but more dynamic qualities to the reading , for example Joyce often spoke as if confidentially to the listener, Garth was outrageous & ridiculous, Ibrahim came over as thoughtful & unsure, not only through his words but how they were delivered.
This book, as with the previous ones would make a good film or TV drama.
