The Hidden Scrolls: Brought to China by a Syrian monk, the Scrolls contain a timeless wisdom for humanity. For hundreds of years, they have remained in the East. Now, a Chinese master gives Captain Jacob van Horn a sacred mission—find the one in the West destined to receive the Scrolls’ wisdom.

To van Horn’s surprise, 16-year-old James IV of Scotland is the one he seeks. But Scotland is on the brink of a bloody civil war, where James will have to fight his own father for the throne. In his battles, the young prince must use the Scrolls and van Horn’s guidance, the love of Margaret Drummond, and a game his father has banned to gain and hold the crown. But another, more important destiny arises within him....

Then, a tragic loss strikes at the pinnacle of his success. The Scrolls’ wisdom must help him find his way, or James IV will lose not only the throne, but a priceless gift meant for the world.

Intrique, Politics, Humanity and Golf!

After learning the power of the scrolls, Captain Jacob van Horn has a new mission. He must deliver the Hidden Scrolls to the destined one in the West. These scrolls have remained in the East for hundreds of years, now it is time for them to be shared. Finding the destined one takes time and patience, but van Horn discovers that a prince, soon to be King James IV is the one and only. Allowing James to see the scrolls one at a time allows him to absorb their teachings of patience, peace, and humanity thus ensuring a peaceful and fair King for Scotland.

The author, Thomas Pizur expertly blended fiction and factual events into a creative and fascinating story. The dialogue was authentic and helped move the story forward at a good pace. Additionally, he provided vivid imagery that connected the listener to the characters and storyline. The amount of research that this accurate and deliberate blending of historical facts with fiction is tremendous! I ended the audiobook with a new appreciation for golf! The structure of the story was so well done that it was difficult to tell the fictional from factual pieces due to the manner in which it was presented by the author and narrator!

The narrator, Dannul Dailey delivers a strong and clear narration. Dannul Dailey’s performance allowed the listener to become so entranced within the story that putting the book down for a night’s sleep was extremely difficult to do! The reverence in which he delivers the words of the scrolls each time is mesmerizing! The reverence in his voice is almost tangible! Delivery, cadence, and tonal inflections are well-suited for the story and keep the listener drawn in!

Overall, this is a great book. It has all the merits of historical fiction complete with political deceit, romance, golf, and intrigue, and are well blended together seamlessly creating an exciting listen!
