Publisher's summary

King. Warrior. Lover.

Brian Boru was stronger, braver, and wiser than all other men-the greatest king Ireland has ever known. Out of the mists of the country's most violent age, he merged to lead his people to the peak of their golden era.

His women were as remarkable as his adventures: Fiona, the druidess with mystical powers; Deirdre, beautiful victim of a Norse invader's brutal lust; Gormlaith, six-foot, red-haired goddess of sensuality.

Set against the barbaric splendors of the 10th century, Lion of Ireland is a story rich in truth and legend-in which friends become deadly enemies, bedrooms turn into battlefields, and dreams of glory are finally fulfilled.

A perfect book to absorb while in Ireland!

My sister recommended this because she knew I was en route to Ireland and she said it was a historical fiction she had enjoyed immensely. I absolutely concur! It was a wonderful way to connect to Ireland’s rich Celtic past.
Recommend.

I was named after Brian

Great saga and a relatively happy ending for an Irish story. Still wish he reunited with his lady of the forest.

Loved it

This was a story first and was told with amazing skill. I enjoyed it from the first paragraph. I was happy with the author notes and her accurate research and also her creative license. She looked at both sides and decided on a path in the middle. A good read about my ancestors

I'm giving up - 53 minutes from the end...

I have worked and worked to try and get through this book but I just can't. It is a very long and rambling story of, basically, the unifying of Ireland. I usually really like those kinds of books but this was just on and on of campaigns, battles, allies, enemies, etc. etc. Typically when I have trouble following complex geography, names, families and the like, I will relisten to passages to get it all straight because it makes me crazy to be confused in a book. I realized with this book, it didn't really seem to matter.
I'm sure there are people to whom this book will really appeal. It just wasn't for me.
I did really like the narrator - his voices were good and the accents very authentic.

Poor Narration

This narrator...the voices they chose for the characters were just such a bad fit it was extremely irritating.

Author rewrites history.

The author makes up stuff in Brian's story to promote her paganism. Brian was a Christian king, but the author makes up stuff to present him as embracing druidism. Christianity is excellence! Deal with it pagans.
