Publisher's summary

Parenting is the most valuable and rewarding job in the world, and also one of the most challenging. This is especially true for highly sensitive people. Highly sensitive parents are unusually attuned to their children. They think deeply about every issue affecting their kids and have strong emotions, both positive and negative, in response. For highly sensitive people, parenting offers unique stresses - but the good news is that sensitivity can also be a parent’s most valuable asset, leading to increased personal joy and a closer, happier relationship with their child.

Dr. Elaine Aron, world-renowned author of the classic The Highly Sensitive Person and other best-selling books on the trait of high sensitivity, has written an indispensable guide for these parents. Drawing on extensive research and her own experience, she helps highly sensitive parents identify and address the implications of their heightened sensitivity, offering:

  • A self-examination test to help parents identify their level of sensitivity
  • Tools to cope with overstimulation
  • Advice on dealing with the negative feelings that can surround parenting
  • Ways to manage the increased social stimulation and interaction that comes with having a child
  • Techniques to deal with shyness around other parents
  • Insight into the five big problems that face highly sensitive parents in relationships - and how to work through them

Highly sensitive people have the potential to be not just good parents, but great ones. Practical yet warm and positive, this groundbreaking guide will show parents how to build confidence, awareness, and essential coping skills so that they - and their child - can thrive on every stage of the parenting journey.

even if you aren’t a highly sensitive mom you should read it

i really enjoyed being seen. highly sensitive moms have an ability to reflect deeply and navigate through parenting with clear emotional guidance system. which can be a great tool for ourselves, our families and the world. the other aspect of being a highly sensitive person can also leave you feeling overwhelmed and overstimulated. i appreciate how she took the time to touch base on what goes unseen. we’re seen

amazing insight into being a highly sensitive

this book is one of the first books to make me feel not alone as someone who sees and hears everything. I am not a helicopter mom but I do know when tones c
hange in my dog's bark to tell me my child is getting into trouble. she is highly sensitive as am I and my children being a minority of people with highly sensitive behaviors and sensory disorders it is amazing to have somebody identify with things that nobody could identify

Glad I read this before my kids were much older (6 and 4)

So many useful tips in this book. I feel seen. I feel less alone. I only recently heard about HSP and am thirsty for knowledge of how to manage this blessing. Even knowing there are other HSP parents out there makes this journey more manageable and fulfilling. Feeling grateful for the colossal effort it must have been to produce this book. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Not great for parents of tweens & teens

This could be helpful for young parents with young kids, but it does not address the specific challenges that come along with tweens & teens.

Not for Parents of Teens

Book was alright. Honestly not sure if this would have helped when my child was younger. The author seems unable to relate to parenting to low income or low resources parents without support groups. Sometimes you don't have those luxuries as a parent and you have to do your best.
