Publisher's summary

From the number one international best-selling author of Holy Island and Seven Bridges.

He thought he was invincible, but he was wrong....

When an old man is found dead inside the ancient hermitage at Warkworth Castle, Northumbria CID are called in to investigate. With no apparent motive, it’s their job to unravel why he was murdered - and this time they’re forced to do it without their star detective....

DCI Ryan is thousands of miles away. He’s tracked a killer across Europe and has sworn not to return until he has his man in custody.

Nathan Armstrong is a dangerous psychopath, but there’s just one problem - he’s also an international celebrity: a world-famous thriller writer with money and connections. Ryan is a stranger in a foreign land, but he knows one thing - he’ll never give up.

Murder and mystery are peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunnit set amidst the spectacular landscapes of Northumberland and Tuscany.

DCI Ryan never fails to entertain..

I absolutely love DCI Ryan, his wife Anna and their best friends Frank Phillips and Denise MacKenzie (now Denise Phillips.) And I love the way the awesome narrator Jonathan Keeble continues to give everyone their own special voice so that you know who’s talking without the book telling you, after this 9th book all the main characters still sound exactly the same.

And this was a great story. All about Nathan Armstrong, the killer that got away once, but not this time, Ryan, Anna, Phillips and MacKenzie followed Armstrong all the way to Italy and back again to England, but they finally caught him red-handed. He got exactly what he deserved for the lives he ruined and the innocents he killed.

There is no swearing and nothing more than a kiss in these books.

As to the narration: Simply awesome!

The Hermitage

I love the DCI Ryan series, this one no exception. The story was good and there is lots of suspense in it. Always love the endings. Please never stop, really wish they would make a TV series of them. Excellent naration.

Fun series even if mostly predictable...

I laughed out loud almost immediately in this one. The first victim's last name is Charron and his occupation is as a ferry boatman. LMAO!! LJ Ross you may have missed your calling, I think you could pull off a UF series if you wanted to!!

Overall I enjoy the main characters and their development in this series. The individual mysteries themselves are fairly predictable but they are still fun reads. I also love learning about the different areas, sites, and sceneries of North Umberland.

Jonathan Keeble is an excellent narrator and I am definitely planning to continue with the series.

Liking the Lilt

So far I believe I have read 10 of LJ Ross's superb books !with the ever so handsome detective (just another of my boyfriends) and his lovely bride Anna. Phillips and MacKenzie are adorable too all thanks to the wonderful narrator. His voice really makes the author have hugely successful stories. LJ Ross is wonderfully knowledgeable about police proceedings, murders, murderers and love 💘 and caring. Being able to survive vicious attacks and moments of happiness makes these the types of books I don't want to put down. Thank goodness I am retired!

Enjoyable

I love this series and have enjoyed all the books equally until this one. While still well worth the credit this one just seems to lack something.

Just read the book to me!

Multi-cast format takes away from this otherwise good book. I much prefer the conventional format.

too much!!!

there seems to be a never ending supply of serial killers in this series. how big is Newcastle? they didn't actually cover the title story, it's just a side issue. the character's are interesting but it's just not believable.
