Publisher's summary

Do you remember the day you began to play the game of life?

For immersed in a game, we lose track of time, we lose track of our surroundings, we forget many external concerns. Games have a way of drawing us in – a way of absorbing our consciousness. We become consumed with what is in front of us, we become consumed with the play. We forget that it is all contrived, all a show – part fun, and part competition, with some real stakes, and many trivial stakes.

The best players get highly absorbed, fully in the zone, fully focused. Similarly, the greatest players also get highly absorbed, yet they have a wisdom which comes from an awareness of the bigger picture. The greatest player has a focal range that is within his/her control – a focus that can shift from diffuse(d)/wide beam/broad, to narrow and laser. A focus that is powerful when narrow, and transformative when broad. The greatest player, in every sport, and in every game is intense in the moment, and simultaneously wise in overall play.

Then what about this game of life? Are you aware of the simulation hypothesis – simulation theory? As Elon Musk states it: “Given we're clearly on a trajectory to have [computer] games that are indistinguishable from reality and those games could be played on a set top box or on a PC or [other device] and there would be billions of such computers or set top boxes, it would seem to follow the odds we're in base reality is one in billions.” Simulation theory suggests that the world we find ourselves in, is actually a virtual reality simulation produced by an advanced civilization. Think on how video games have evolved between the year 1980, to the present moment. The games advanced from squares and circles on a screen, to semi-realistic and highly compelling graphics in 2020 games like Call of Duty. Imagine what type of SIMulation game our human civilization will produce in 1000 years. I can guarantee you, that when you plug into a video game produced 1000 years from today, the graphics will appear more real than you see through your own eyes, the sound more rich than you can hear with your own ears, the sensations more vivid and convincing than you can feel through your own skin. This will occur because your very brain is what will connect to such a game – fully immersed – neural linked – the most real thing you know. “I find it hard to argue that we are not in a simulation.” – Neil deGrasse Tyson

Take a moment to wonder why it is that you don’t remember the day you began to play the game of life? That day, was the year 2314, to be exact, and the gaming technology has indeed advanced, so not only are our games immersive in terms of the visual, auditory, and the other sensory elements, but there is so much more. For the neuroscientists have had a central role, and they have devised a procedure to suppress areas of the brain including the hippocampus and sections of the prefrontal cortex – areas that are responsible for your memory and general awareness. They suppress the areas of your brain that would otherwise remind you that the virtual world you just entered is just that – a virtual world. The VR of 2314 is so advanced, that when you enter the game you believe that it is your only reality. You enter the game, your pre-game memory is suppressed, and you now have a tiny but growing avatar body, yet you do not even remember how to walk! That was your birth.

After reading this book, I promise that you will step out into the world, and you will play differently. You will play with more power, you will control the pace; you will play with intention – more fluid, with grace. This book exists to remind you of your high ranking as a player. For you are no ordinary player in this game – YOU ARE THE GREATEST PLAYER!
