Publisher's summary

The second set of interconnected stand-alone fairy tale retellings from the Four Kingdoms series

Book 3 - The Princess Pact: A Twist on Rumpelstiltskin: Marie, the dutiful princess of Northhelm, chafes under the rigid protocol that governs her life. Then a growing darkness threatens the kingdom and uncovers the lie at the center of her whole life - a single pact that changes everything.

Novella 3.5 - A Midwinter's Wedding: A Retelling of The Frog Prince: Princess Cordelia is used to being overshadowed by her many brothers and sisters. So when she's offered the chance to attend her brother's wedding in a faraway kingdom, she leaps at it. In Northhelm, she'll finally have the chance to stand out. And maybe, just maybe, she'll even find romance.

Book 4 - The Princess Game: A Reimagining of Sleeping Beauty: In this reimagining of the classic fairy tale Sleeping Beauty, it's only the princess's mind that is asleep. And sometimes appearances can be deceiving.

Better Fairy Tales

I have always loved the story of Sleeping Beauty. Celeste’s story was more than I could have imagined. Esther’s subtle differences between when she was Aurora and when she was the princess were fantastic and made everything clear. This is definitely a set I’ll listen to again and again. 💜

Mesmerizing

This book series is turning out to be one of my favorites of all times. I love the spin on the classic fairy tales. It is still familiar yet different enough to keep you guessing the outcome. I really like how the characters are linked and referenced from past stories. Of course, like all fairy tales, the outcome is happily ever after. I have all of the books in this series and can't wait to start on the next one.

Binge-worthy books

Just finished the whole series. I love that the characters from all of the books are intertwined so by the end you know all of them like old friends.

Clever and absorbing reimagining of fairy tales

The author is a very skillful writer, strong at character development and world building. She is clever and really fine at her art. The narrator is terrific, but I found the accent for Marie and William's kingdom to be distracting, taking me away from what was happening.

The Princess Pact: I don't love this as much as the predecessors in The Four Kingdoms, but still it is fine writing, an interesting world and richly wrought characters. Rumpelstiltskin was so creepy! Extra creepy. Rafe and Marie were not as compelling as other couples the author has developed. Marie's development is well-crafted, in the long run.

A Midwinter's Wedding: This was a full, enjoyable story, with appealing main characters and the usual fine plotting from the author. It was much better than the earlier novella in the series, for me. The winter theme was very well managed.

The Princess Game: Celeste/Aurora's story is well-conceived and written. Melanie Cellier is excellent at reimagining fairy tales and making them fascinating. The world of the Four Kingdoms is beautifully wrought. The plot twists added interest. It wasn't my favorite by the author, but a very strong entry.
