Publisher's summary

With a new afterword about Colton’s battle with Covid-19 and breakup, this New York Times best seller from former football player and star of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette is “full of the kind of juicy details ‘The Bachelor’ franchise enthusiasts yearn for” (HuffPost).

Before Colton Underwood captured the hearts of millions on The Bachelor, he was a goofy, socially awkward, overweight adolescent who succeeded on the football field while struggling with personal insecurities off it. An All-American gridiron hero, he was also a complex, sometimes confused, soft-hearted romantic wondering how these contradictions fit together. Old-fashioned and out of step with the swipe right dating culture of today, he was saving the most intimate part of life for the love of his life. If only he could find her....

Now, in The First Time, Colton opens up about how he came to find himself and true love at the same time via the Bachelor franchise. Unencumbered by cameras and commercial breaks, he delivers a surprisingly raw, endearing, and seriously juicy account of his journey through The Bachelorette, Bachelor in Paradise, and The Bachelor. He opens up about being dumped by Becca, his secret dalliance with Tia, what it was like to be the world’s most famous virgin, his behind-the-scenes conflicts with production, and how his on-camera responsibilities as the Bachelor nearly destroyed him after he knew he had already fallen in love with Cassie.

A memoir for Bachelor Nation and anyone who believes in the magic of love, The First Time “is a thoughtful exploration into what it means to discover oneself” (USA Today).

Good behind the scenes info!

First, Colton was an above average narrator! The first couple of Chapters I was tempted to skip, because the pre bachelor stuff, wasn't that interesting, but I suppose necessary. For fans of the show, it was a good view of how the mechanics of the show work. It was an easy listen. Colton could get a job reading for Audible. He wasn't "ong, what a great narrator" but he was very competent. He should try some more challenging material to see just how good he could be.

NFL insider's view Inside scoop on Bachelor 👍

I was surprised on how well this was written and how well Colton's voice just draws you in. Easy fun listen. Sports fans will be entertained by the insider view of getting in the NFL as well as his experience there as well as background on how the bachelor works. Colton is relatable and this book is surprisingly motivational. Absolutely loved it, worth reading and very insightful. Well done Colton.

Just an OK read

I did not watch Colton's Bachelor season, so I was hoping for some insight into his season reading this book. While this book talked mostly about Cassie and how much he loves Cassie, it didn't get into much of the details of the season which I was hoping for. It was mostly a story to maybe reassure other readers or himself or Cassie that she was the only one for him.

Just ok.

I’ll admit, I watch the bachelor. I was intrigued to listen to this book to find out the behind the scenes bachelor “scoop”. I followed Coltons season of the bachelor and he truly seems very genuine and I think this book also portrayed him that way. A few lines in the book rubbed me the wrong way and made Colten seem conceited and kind of frat-boy like which I found annoying. Though I think he probably has good intentions, him narrating the book along with what I thought were some childish actions & reactions he has experienced in life, just annoyed me. Overall I think it was just OK, maybe it would’ve been better with someone else narrating. I was intrigued by some of the behind the scenes bachelor production he talked about.
