Publisher's summary

On the morning of her 16th birthday, Hollis Timewire receives the worst possible news: she can't become a citizen of the world. She's a Diseased One.

Born with a biomarker that bestows dangerous, brain-altering powers, Hollis is forced to hide underground with other Diseased Ones, who believe the government falsified history to cover up their genocide. Now, Hollis must discover the truth, and is willing to risk anything, including her powers, to go back home.

A Truely Surprising Ending

I am anxiously awaiting the second book. I can only hope that the rest of the series comes out quickly. Very well written and an amazing storyline to go compliment it.

Love getting to hear Danielle’s book come to life!

I have followed Danielle’s book journey from the beginning and I have read and re read her books that I was so excited to finally listen to the audiobook. I absolutely love what Julian does for these characters and the fact that you can tell which character is talking is great! I can’t wait to listen to second and third book. Check it out! You won’t be disappointed!

Divergent meets The Giver

Wow! This book was AMAZING. It’s like Divergent and The Giver had a baby! Wonderful storytelling! I really enjoyed the characters and the world building. Very immersive reading experience. We follow Hollis Timewire in this story. She is about to complete her coming out ceremony but she doesn’t pass. Our story goes from there. Wild things are revealed and everything she thought she knew, she is now questioning. Now Hollis is on the hunt for the truth, will she find it? I CANNOT wait to read/listen to the rest of the series!!

I had the honor of receiving a ALC code for this book and man… Jillian Yetter is such an AMAZING narrator. She had such a way of bringing the characters to life. I can perfectly see in my mind’s eye everything that is happening. The setting. The characters. Their expressions on their faces. Love, love, love! I will be continuing to listen to Jillian with this series and I’ll definitely be checking out her other works!

On The Edge of My Seat

This book caught and held my attention from the first few pages. I was so engrossed in the story and it was hard to put down. This narrator is easy to listen to and really brings the story to life. Can't wait for the rest of the series.

Amazing story

I have been waiting for this book to come to audiobook for years and I finally got my wish. It lived up to my expectations and blew them out of the water. The story is fantastic with a character you can relate to. I could feel her struggles throughout the story and can’t wait for book 2 to come out on audio.

TV Show "Heros" meets Book Series "Divergent

This debut novel was a quick read and fun story. I appreciated the subtle showing of OCD in the way Hollis counts everything, and it helps her control the chaos around her. Hollis has some major feelings which, are new to her. This ultimately leads to poor choices, and I am excited to see her growth as the series continues. It would not be a YA novel if the characters thought like responsible adults, so I appreciate that Hollis acted her age. Loved that Danielle Harrington almost got me to throw the book across the room at the end!

The narrator was amazing and it felt like an entire cast instead of one voice. She kept me immersed and was not at all distracting.

Holy book hangover—take me back!

Imagine feeling like there’s a monster under your own skin … and feeling a need to slay it. That’s not even the least of Hollis’s problems, since she’s literally been brainwashed. She gets to struggle to accept this, while dealing with being dropped into a new-to-her world, figuring out who to trust, who to believe … all while feeling like her ‘ability’ is alive and needs to be destroyed … all while trying to master it.

She’s only 16, as this is a YA dystopian read, and I found myself hooked from the beginning. Now that I’ve finished it, I miss it terribly. I hope to be able to read on into the series, as I feel a need to see what else happens, and a desire to get lost into this world again.

A few aspects are a bit rough, for example the way the lead goes from not having/ perpetually suppressing feelings to just, ‘Oh, okay, I have all the feelings now.’ and seemingly doesn’t have any sort of trauma from the years they were oppressed, or trouble expressing them, etc. didn’t feel plausible to me. The way there’s no crush or tension shown, but then there’s passionate kissing … but then nothing again on that front … and the author does a lot of telling, rather than showing. It makes me feel that maybe this was their first attempt at writing or storytelling. Clearly they have imagined an incredible, addictive world, but still have some things to master as far as writing. I expect they’ll get there, as there’s lots they do well.

I’m so glad I had the opportunity to hear this book.
Overall: 4 stars.

Audio:
The narrator has a very smooth, pleasant-sounding voice, and she more performs the story, than robotically reads, which really helps me to stay engaged. Very well done.
