So good!

I have listened to his other anthologies and this one is just as good as the rest. Definitely lovecraftian cosmic horror vibes. Highly recommend!

Joshua Saxon is a narrator God...

Being that I love Joshua Saxon's narration skills, when I was offered a review copy via Audible, I accepted and here we are!

I previously read about 20 % of this book a while back, but I was in a short story slump at the time and never finished it. I thought perhaps Saxon's voicing would help me this time around and I'm happy to report that I was right!

This was a rather large collection, with a variety of dark fiction stories that were sort of all over the map. It seems that David Niall Wilson is a master, no matter what he's writing about. (As Joshua Saxon is a master, no matter what he's narrating.) There were a few stories that really stood out for me and they were:

She Mourned
If You Were Glass-this might've been my favorite. What a dark, dark tale!
The Whirling Man-another chilling story that Saxon's voicing brought to life.
Teachable Moments-Maybe I'd rather not learn?
Wayne's World-not the one you're probably thinking of.
The Devil's in the Flaws-I really dug this one and to be honest, I wanted more of it!

There were 21 stories here and they were all good, but the ones I've listed above were exceptional.

Joshua Saxon is a narrator God, right up there with Ray Porter, Matt Godfrey and a few other of my favorites. (Saxon narrated a 34 hour sequel to The Odyssey and made every moment exciting, not every narrator can do that!) As with Ray Porter and Jonathan Maberry, who together show what narrators can do with great material, Wilson and Saxon create an unbeatable team. I hope to read or listen to more from them both in the future.

Overall, this is a solid collection of stories and while they are all dark in some form or another, the variety was stunning. Recommended, especially to fans of anthologies and collections!

*Thanks to the narrator for the audio review copy.*
