The Cowboy's Christmas Star!

This is a sweet and inspirational story with a little suspense and a quest. The story is about a rancher who has lost his mother. To honor her he is looking a star that was like the one that topped their Christmas tree when he was younger. He walks into a shop that holds possibility of finding the star he meets the owner. She is up for the task and wants to help him. There is a little bit of suspense with a thievery in the community. I like the story and the Christian emphasis. The narration is done well and really brings the story to life.

Star

This is a sweet story. It is at a slower pace than most books I read. It is a clean story and Christian.
It reminds me of a Hallmark movie, but as a book. Narration is smooth, feel there should be more of a difference in the voices. I received a free copy of this audiobook from BookSprout and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Some Sweet Moments, But …

This book has some sweet moments, but it also had a suspense subplot I don't feel was adequately handled. I liked the hero, a hard-working rancher seeking a star for his Christmas tree like one his recently deceased mother had. It accidentally got broken or misplaced, and he wants to honor her memory. Very sweet. The heroine owns the kind of shop you can get that sort of thing from, and in their meet-cute, he enters her store hoping to find one. It then becomes a quest during the entire book to find a star similar to the one his mother topped the tree with every year while he was growing up. The local ranches are suffering from a series of thefts, which then escalate. I don't feel this suspense subplot was adequately resolved, both with the villain of the piece and the group of young men. The author didn't tie it all together. I got a little frustrated with the heroine as if she was apt to jump to conclusions and then act based on those conclusions without getting further details to see if her fears had any basis in reality. I just find it a weak plot choice to use something that could be quickly resolved with a conversation as a barrier to romance. I also disliked how she was so wishy-washy about the two men vying for her attention. Clearly, one was a creeper—which she even seemed to understand—but she seemed willing to consider him again when she thought the hero was unavailable. Ugh. The book has a strong Christian bent, with multiple church services and prayers as part of the story. Not every reader is comfortable with this kind of emphasis, even when it makes sense for a Christmas story.
