Publisher's summary

Lyrical, poetic, and hypnotizing, The Coming tells the story of a people's capture and sojourn from their homeland across the Middle Passage - a traumatic trip that exposed the strength and resolve of the African spirit. Extreme conditions produce extraordinary insight, and only after being stripped of everything do they discover the unspeakable beauty they once took for granted. This powerful, haunting novel will shake listeners to their very souls.

Riveting

The author's words and the narrator's voice took me there. I was with my people on that ship. I saw the great suffering that my people had to endure in my mind. I felt their pain. I am thankful for the strength of my people because I am here.

Difficult but Heroism Prevailed

The most unimaginable strength was displayed by these captured Africans who DID NOT BENEFIT FROM SLAVERY!!!!! Only an idiot would make such a statement!!!!!!

A Glimpse Into The Middle Passage

Brutally realistic and vivid depiction of the middle passage. If you want to know what it was like....this is literally it. An angle that I never heard.

An interesting view of the Middle Passage

From the eyes of the encaptured Africans, We see what they probably experienced. We see how several hundred captured dwindles down to the one and what each one experiences through their travel aboard ship as well as what they experienced at auction.

This was such an emotional read for me because I am here due to my ancestors going through something as described in this story. God Bless them because the survivors had to be some strong people both mentally, spiritually as well as physically.

Powerful

Profound and impacfful telling of the Maafa. This country is constantly trying to erase its atrocities against Africans because they want to continue them. This text is very clear on the kind of wickedness and evil that African descendants are forced to contend with each day. Never forget.

Magnificent Yet Riveting and Heartbreaking

I’ve traced my ancestry and know I come from the west coast of Africa. To hear in vivid detail how at least one of my ancestors survived that brutal 70+ month voyage is truly miraculous. It’s hard to listen and not have it evoke anger, and though many times I felt like turning it off, I finished, and wow, it was beautifully done. My people are truly resilient.

Visit the Slave Castles in Ghana!

Listening to this book takes me back to my visits in Ghana and the Slave Dungeons of Cape Coast and Elmina. I gave it only four stars because I'm only in chapter seven. The narrator brings life and lives to my visits to these hell holes. I'm taking my time with this book because it's hard knowing that my ancestors are mentioned here and lived these words.

A must read for any African or Descendent who wants to take the journey!!!!
