A Today Show #ReadWithJenna Book Club Pick

This instant New York Times bestseller that is “captivating in every sense of the word” (Sarah Pearse, New York Times bestselling author) follows a group of researchers uncovering a mysterious deck of tarot cards and shocking secrets in New York’s famed Met Cloisters.

When Ann Stilwell arrives in New York City, she expects to spend her summer working as a curatorial associate at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Instead, she finds herself assigned to The Cloisters, a gothic museum and garden renowned for its medieval art collection and its group of enigmatic researchers studying the history of divination.

Desperate to escape her painful past, Ann is happy to indulge the researchers’ more outlandish theories about the history of fortune telling. But what begins as academic curiosity quickly turns into obsession when she discovers a hidden 15th-century deck of tarot cards that might hold the key to predicting the future. When the dangerous game of power, seduction, and ambition at The Cloisters turns deadly, Ann becomes locked in a race for answers as the line between the arcane and the modern blurs.

A haunting and magical blend of genres, The Cloisters is a “masterwork of literary suspense that surges to an otherworldly conclusion” (Mark Prins, author of The Latinist).

Not a good choice

Extremely poor narration made this story lackluster and boring. Aspects of the plot came with no previous development and were unbelievable. The others in my book club who listened on Audible said the same thing about the narration.

Not as good as hoped

However, it did produce a wild ending. The writer is just not in control of the characters who are shallow, especially the steretoyped heroine. And there were wierd ‘continuity’ problems. Like a character is described as waving a champagne flute and two lineslater is swirliing olives on a toothpick in her drink. Peopke are suddenly sitting eksewhere. You’d think Simon & Schuster would have better editing. Narrator over enunciated crispky which ruined the Gothic atmosphere. On the other hand. if you ever suffered in grad school and have revenge fantasies, this is your book

Ehhh

Hard time following the story line. Then it’s all wrapped up at the end. Feel like I missed major plot lines.

Are you interested in fate

CVery interesting story about whether you believe in fate. Highly recommend. Had fun. I love the fascination with fate, and whether you could see your future. A lot of fun. Great story.

A nice book

I liked the story and how it developped and ended. It was somewhat predictable, bit not entirely. I don't mind it, however. It was captivating enough and created this mood that stays with a reader. Narration was good as well.

Just OK

I have to agree with other reviewers, this story dragged on in very lulling way. Many parts felt pretty convoluted like the author was trying really hard to pull some mystery and darkness into the story line through the use of tarot but it just fell flat. I wish I would have read the reviews before purchasing.
