Publisher's summary

This book is a much-requested follow-up to Brain over Binge (2011, 2022), in which the author shared how she used a basic understanding of neuroscientific principles to overcome bulimia. In this sequel and companion volume, with the help of fellow specialists and authors Amy Johnson, PhD, Katherine Thomson, PhD, and others, Kathryn Hansen lays out those same principles—and many more—in a self-help format that encourages and enables binge eaters to recover efficiently and effectively.

Although recovery is not the same for everyone, this book posits that there are only two essential goals that must be met to end bulimia and binge eating disorder: (1) learning to dismiss urges to binge and (2) learning to eat adequately. As you work toward these goals with a streamlined focus, you will discover your own strength, develop your own insights, and put into practice ideas and behaviors that work uniquely and authentically for you.

The Brain over Binge Recovery Guide is comprehensive in its length and scope but utterly simple in its approach: You will listen to and use only what you need—continuing on in the book if you feel you need more information and guidance, putting it down and moving on with your life when you feel you’re ready—so that you can start living binge-free as quickly and easily as possible.

Worth a listen if you struggle wan eating disorder!

I’ve struggled with eating all my life and at 70+ years I think I’ve heard & tried it all. The approach outlined is straight forward and while in some respects seems simple but it will take effort. As it will take study and reviewing as I move forward I have purchased the book to make my study easier. If you struggle with an eating disorder you know there are no quick fixes and no “ sure fire “ methods… the approach presented may not work for you nut but its worth looking into.

I loved it!

I’ve already read Brain Over Binge and was subscribed for a few months to Kathryn’s recovery program, but I still got a lot out of this book. There are so many prompts for writing/self reflection that it’s really a practical manual on how to recover and not redundant even if you’re already familiar with the ideas in Brain Over Binge. I loved it so much, that I want to gift it to anyone who struggles with eating issues. I really like that Kathryn herself does the audio, and I found the exercises helpful and empowering. I’m looking forward to listening a second time while doing more journaling and my own work, but I’m already so encouraged. Kathryn clearly put so much thought and care into addressing every angle and concern and the ideas are sound, well researched, and well thought out. I highly recommend.
