I have never watched the TV version before, so I can't compare it with the book. But this audiobook kept me entertained from the beginning to the end. I read so many negative reviews about this audiobook that I'd struggled whether to buy it for a long time. It turned out to be much better than I had expected. I saw (and you will too) so much of this book's shadow in Twilight. I swear some of the scenes are almost exactly the same. You'll have to say it's original because it was written twenty years ago. Anyway, just buy it if you love reading paranormal romance.
Enjoyed it so much i have downloaded the next two books. Highly recommend it for you fellow vampire lovers.
Well read by the actress. The book is sort of interesting, though it is completely different from the TV show, the reason I got interested in the first place. Much, much better than the Twilight saga, there's really no comparison between the two: The Vampire Diaries is more compelling, better written and overall more agreeable.
This story seems to follow the same type story as the twilight. Teenage angst and all.
It took me a while to get into it, but once I did I was hooked. It's not at all like the TV series. It has the same characters and the same struggle for Elana, but the story is very different. I watched the TV series but so far I like the story in the books MUCH better. On TV, just like they did with TrueBlood, they took the characters and some of the basics and then re-wrote it. Personally in both cases the books have the best stories. Definately worth listening to!!!
The narrator is the worst narrator that I have ever heard. her itialian accent sounds like Mario and Luigi. her southern accent sounds like Forrest Gump. she made me not finish the book. I can't bear to hear her speak another word.
This is nothing like the tv show. the show is much better. the characters are much different. I still wanted to hear the story but the narrator caused me to turn it off. as far as the story, thank God for Kevin Williamson for making it better.
I just had to take the time and review this. The book was okay. Just okay. The setting and history are all different from the tv show, but that's alright. My problem with this book is with the end. It just ends abruptly. You can call it a cliffhanger, but this is even more than that. The book has a beginning, a middle and then it just stops. There's no real storyline in it. It's all background and the beginning of the plot. No resolution. It's half an arc. I haven't read the 2nd book but I would assume the 2nd one should actually be the last half of the first. They shouldn't be separate books.
In most series, you have unresolved issues at the end of each book which provide the story for the next, but there is a whole storyline that is finished by the end of it. You don't have that in this book. It just stops at the beginning of what feels like the conclusion.
So, in my opinion, if you really want to read this, then get the 1st and 2nd books to read together.
Very good reading this is very similar to the T. Saga, & I really like both. Never watched the TV show, but this series is definitely worth your time and gets better with each book! Enjoy.
It was good but wish I had listened to this audio book before i watched the tv show.
Just one? :P
I watch the tv show and therefore chose to read the book. It was interesting to see the differences in characters and plot.
I found it very hard to pay attention to this book. I keep losing interest and felt like it would never end. The characters are supposed to be in high school, but one acts to old and another like a child.
No. I felt like I was a child being read to during storytime at the library. Rebecca Mozo doesn't have enoough different voices for all the characters in this book. The voices for Damon and Stefan are exactly the same and makes the story really hard to follow.
I watch the TV show and it is nothing like the books. The TV show is better written and a lot more entertaining.
"Here it begins"
This book is the start of a brilliant series. Dark and intense, the novel sucks the reader in from its opening sentence and doesn't let up. Sensitively written, with characters that leap to life the moment they come into being, The Awakening starts an emotional roller coaster that doesn't let up for the entire series. The cliffhanger ending for each book sets the scene up for the next and the series isn't finished yet. A must-listen for any lovers of teen vampire sagas.
Utterly shallow and vacuous, with a lead character that is virtually impossible to like. Elena is the popular 'queen' of the school, she seems to have every other commoner in the school fawning all over her (for which they deserve ridicule and derision apparently) and following her about the place. The only basis for judging someone's worth, according to this book, is their looks and whether or not they're wearing this season's designer clothes. Horrible. Unless you're 14, don't read this book. Although I wouldn't like any 14 year old to think that the lifestyle or attitude of these characters was something to aspire to in life!
Absolutely fantastic, a gripping tale of a love triangle but also incorporates action and suspense. I would highly recommend all the books in this series and definitely read the books before you watch the series.
Better character development, a likeable main character, a more developed writing style, a WAY better thought out relationship development - she told him she loved him the second time they spoke… just awful
There are definitely some great books in this genre and so I could never be put off it, but I'm not interested in this series at all
was perfecty fine
The voice actor did an ok job. And the flashbacks into the past were relatively interesting. Otherwise, I can't think of anything else that was redeeming
It was terrible. Awfully written and undeveloped story. There was clearly some thought behind it and the concept is perfectly good, with the brothers story and everything, but in practice it was was no where near good enough for the hype that this series has gotten. The TV series is 110% better because it managed to take the basics that the book presented and actually create something decent out of it, as the writer was not able to do in my opinion
having first seen the series for the first time ever the novel seemed to be worst!
