Publisher's summary

Family is power. The Original vampire family swore it to each other a thousand years ago. They pledged to remain together always and forever. But even when you're immortal, promises are hard to keep.

Arriving in New Orleans in 1722, Original vampire siblings Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah Mikaelson believe they've escaped their dangerous past. But the city is lawless, a haven for witches and werewolves unwilling to share territory. The siblings are at their mercy...especially after Klaus meets the beautiful and mysterious Vivianne. Her impending marriage is key to ending the war between the supernatural factions - and Klaus' attraction to her could destroy the uneasy alliance. As Elijah works toward securing a piece of the city for his family, and Rebekah fights her unexpected feelings for a French captain, will Klaus' volatile desires bring their world crashing down - and tear them apart for good?

I absolutely love The Originals!!!!

I am so intrigued by The Originals Vampires, especially now that I am finally able to sit and read the books after watching the first three seasons. I can't get enough of them. Thank you Julie Plec for such an amazing storyline and irresistible characters.

Series was good the Books are Better

I found the Originals streaming one night and just loved the series. I did go back and watch the Vampire Diaries but I am a little too old for that one. I had a bunch of credits and thought hmm why not. And to my Very Happy surprise I am asking you why have you not downloaded them. Well read and definitely a great way to learn about how the Original Family cane to New Orleans. Ready to bite into the next book!!

I loved it all

I was hesitant on “reading” this book due to a review about the narrators voice for the characters. A good narrator makes it or breaks an audible. I had my reservations because of my love for Klaus. I have high standards for that character. Joseph Morgan plays his character so well. Let me say that the narrator did a phenomenal job matching the cadence of the characters. I was blown away. I would highly recommend. I love the show. I love the characters. They have such a variety of personality but yet also intune fundementally on a deeper level with each other. The author does a great job with making you fall in love with all of the characters. Each one holding a special place in your heart. There is at least something in all of them the reader can relate to and in someway humble the spirit in the best way. I love the setting. New Orleans is such a magical city. It does feel like stepping into the old world. You can feel the history and presence of magic of old walking the streets of New Orleans. The music, the art, the history…The author gives homage to that beauty and mystery. I love the conflicts within the characters as well as conflicts with external forces. The passion, the loyalty, the romance, the rage, the chaos, the hope, the mixture of fantasy and real world circumstances. I really wish the show would have followed this story path because it really would have been a game changer. I couldn’t get enough. I can’t wait to read the next book. So so good. Great job Julie Plec. You created something special I will cherish always. Great job Saskia Maarleveld. You brought these characters to life and continued my love for them. All the stars. Bravo.

Great story! Narration is terrible and distracting.

Great story, but the female attempted male voice narration is terrible and very distracting. 10/10 otherwise.

Pretty decent

This was a decent novel and a good follow up to watching the show. It felt like I was watching another episode, so the nostalgia was really great. The characters were written and acted just as they would have I watched another episode of The Originals.

Klaus is still portrayed as a crazy lunatic who falls in love with somebody that he can’t have and does everything to try to get her. Elijah tries to keep the peace with everybody but at the end of the day, it doesn’t care if he has to break the peace in order to save his family. And Rebecca, always the hopeless romantic.

Overall, I’d say it was neat. There was quite a bit of action and it was easy to follow. I feel like people Who have never watch the show will be a little bit lost. Other than that, it was good.

I miss the Original Family

I loved the TV show so this side story was great. If I could hear the cast it would of topped this book, but the performance still captured it.

Love the book, the Narrator not so much.

The whishing voice of the narrator gets under my skin, This is a hardcore wrote and well thought out plot. The voice of the woman reading it for me, Takes away from the characters portrayed in the book. If you can get past the sound of her voice the book is awesome. have other books with woman Narrators and I love them also. Just wished this one had a different voice. pity cause I love the book. but could only listen to it for a short period of time. Find something else and go back later,
