The fourth book in the New York Times best-selling series.
San Francisco: After fleeing to Ojai, then Paris, and escaping to London, Josh and Sophie Newman are finally home. And after everything they've seen and learned in the past week, they're both more confused than ever about their future. Neither of them has mastered the magics they'll need to protect themselves from the Dark Elders, they've lost Scatty, and they're still being pursued by Dr. John Dee. Most disturbing of all, however, is that now they must ask themselves, can they trust Nicholas Flamel? Can they trust anyone?
Alcatraz: Dr. Dee underestimated Perenelle Flamel's power. Alcatraz could not hold her, Nereus was no match for her, and she was able to align herself with the most unlikely of allies. But she wasn't the only one being held on the island. Behind the prison's bars and protective sigils were a menagerie of monsters—an army for Dee to use in the final battle. And now Machiavelli has come to Alcatraz to loose those monsters on San Francisco.
Perenelle might be powerful, but each day she weakens, and even with Nicholas back at her side, a battle of this size could be too much for her. Nicholas and Perenelle must fight to protect the city, but the effort will probably kill them both.
London: Having been unable to regain the two final pages of the Codex, Dee has failed his Elder and is now an outlaw—and the new prey of all the creatures formerly sent to hunt down Flamel.
But Dee has a plan. With the Codex and the creatures on Alcatraz, he can control the world. All he needs is the help of the Archons. But for his plan to work, he must raise the Mother of the Gods from the dead. For that, he'll have to train a necromancer. And the twins of legend will make the perfect pupils.

I am an avid listener. I listen between 75-100 hours per month on my iPhone: 60% fiction to 40% non-fiction.
This novel intensifies your feeling for the characters. By the end of this book you have so much invested in the story that you want to know the end; but are starting to mourn that there are only two more novels. This is the 2/3 point in the series. Be prepared for heartbreak and surprise – who is who. The strands of the base story complicate in this installment leaving you unsure of what twists and turns lay ahead -- excellent. There are storms brewing on every front, elder and immortals and on the side of good and the side of evil. You’ll have some big questions at the end of this one for sure.
This series may or may not be intended for teenagers or the youth. It is a nice fun series. I am a seriously avid reader, and finish a novel per week. I picked up the first book in the series for my daughter. I ran out of books and picked it up. I have read all of them now. They are fun.
The series has characters that are well wrritten and believable. The goals and problems are very truthful. Michael Scott has to have or had a few teenagers because he has them down pretty well in the books.
Now don't think you are about to read a literary masterpiece but the stories have heart, soul, well planned themes and flow, and realistic well described characters. I love a good book and these are just that. GOOD BOOKS
I loved this book! I was sad when it ended and cannot wait for the next in the series. This series just keeps getting better and better. Love it!
This book is a really good continuation of the story and is a must read by anybody that is into the michael scott books about the immortal nicholas flamel.
This is the worst in the series. Clearly written just to string out the series and resolve nothing. Don't waste your time. If you are smart you will never start the series as it goes nowhere but in circles. Very disappointing. Hope they never make the movie.
I fell in love with this book series and the narrator performs in such a way that brings each character to life and gives each their own voice. Phenomenal story, even better performance!
This series started off with a bang and has been slowly going downhill. The narration is fine but I'm starting to become annoyed with the plot points. This book expanded the number and complexity of the story lines being followed (and many of the new ones don't add anything). Nothing is resolved in this book and Josh (who was always a little whiny) becomes such an annoying little idiot that I almost don't want to listen to the next book despite how much I want to know how everything ends.
I know that a lot of people feel this series of books was written for a younger crowd, but I was interested enough in the content description to read them myself. I was really captivated and the writer kept excellent connect throughout the books, paying attention to detail, and not leaving loose ends anywhere. The descriptions were just right and the story was fast moving and exciting. I really liked this writers imagination, and the narrator is outstanding. For a good read without long dalliances on sex this is your book. I liked the writers sticking on point and moving us all over the world in such a creative way.
I recommend this book and the series to everyone of all ages and background, a total escape that's refreshing.
Haven't read any Michael Scott books, only have done the audio series.
Harry Potter - young siblings fighting end of the world demons, witches, sorcerers, and magic. Hunger Games - good kids/adults vs. evil. Fever Series - young adult saving the world from demons and fae.
How each person has their "smell."
Long, long listen but enjoyable. You get into the characters and wind up listening to the entire series because you want to know how the world ends.
I have no feelings on this as I decided to listen to the entire series rather than read it as I have some time in the car and when I am running which can be filled with the world of Nicholas Flammel!
I think that there are a number of moments however the ending was super cool. I think that Josh is becoming a little wimpish as I tend to forget he is only 15....
His character changes are great. I really like his vocal inflections and he can build tension very well...
the saga continues....
I cant wait for the conclusion....
