Publisher's summary

Book one in the blockbuster Maze Runner series that spawned a movie franchise and ushered in a worldwide phenomenon! And don’t miss The Fever Code, the highly-anticipated series conclusion that finally reveals the story of how the maze was built! When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his name. He’s surrounded by strangers - boys whose memories are also gone.

Outside the towering stone walls that surround them is a limitless, ever-changing maze. It’s the only way out - and no one’s ever made it through alive. Then a girl arrives. The first girl ever. And the message she delivers is terrifying: Remember. Survive. Run.

The Maze Runner and Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, and Maze Runner: The Death Cure all are now major motion pictures featuring the star of MTV's Teen Wolf, Dylan O’Brien; Kaya Scodelario; Aml Ameen; Will Poulter; and Thomas Brodie-Sangster.

The Maze Runner...

It was a good story but there was always a lot going on that it could be hard to keep track of all the people and events happening in the book. But overall it was a good story and I recommend that others listen to The Maze Runner.

Best Narrator

The book was okay. Not great but okay. I am not planning to pursue it by getting the sequel, especially after reading some of the other reviews.

The reason I am writing this review is to give kudos to, and recommend the narrator. I will definitely be searching the website for more books read by Mark Deakins. He is the best reader I have heard so far. I am impressed by his ability to augment the characters by creating a unique voice for each one, being consistent in the performance of each character's voice, and to act out conversations among multiple characters, with seamless transitions from one to the next.

The performance is so good that you can forget that you are listening to one person reading. It sounds more like a well rehearsed play with several actors.

Not great, but not bad.

The reader for this book is a little monotone at times but story is good.
Will read the next book.

Great Dystopian

I, of course, got the book because of the movie and enjoyed it thoroughly. There are differences between the two of course, but; having listened to the book, I understand why the movie was written the way it was.

The book itself is rather short for my taste, being a fan of long serial novels like Wheel of Time, but the story and action isn't limited in anyway. That is really my only complaint about the book itself and it hardly even qualifies as one.

The concept is interesting, well thought out and doesn't lack in character development. The narrator was new for me, but thought he did a good job. If there is any criticism there, it would be Newt's accent. It wasn't bad, but could have been better and sometimes it faded in and out. Again, very minor.

If you're a fan of Dystopian books like Hunger Games or Divergent, I'm sure you'll enjoy this series as well.
